This incredible story was first published back in 1992 in a number of reputable St. Petersburg publications, but it gained widespread attention later, when similar cases were recorded in other parts of the planet.
Of course, some will say that this is all fiction and fantasy. Perhaps it is, and this narrative is just another fantastical urban legend. It's up to you to decide. The story took place in the summer of 1952. A train carrying pioneers was heading to the Kanel Yarvi station for dispatch to a summer camp. According to the station master and the dispatcher on duty, the train passed the platform at 1:30 PM local time and, for unknown reasons, did not stop, which was immediately recorded in reports.
The train never arrived at its destination. Given the single-track nature of this section, the possibility of it going off the rails was excluded. About four hours later, a special investigation of the situation began, especially since there were many children in the carriages. KGB and police officers were involved in the search operation. The report of the train's disappearance quickly reached Lavrentiy Beria, and then Joseph Stalin. Stalin demanded that all participants in the incident be found alive within three days and the guilty punished, for which several hundred police officers were mobilized. KGB officers and volunteers began a thorough examination of the railway track and a search for the train. The entire section where the train could be was checked by experienced state security and police officers, but no traces were found.
Two days later, on an early foggy morning, the train unexpectedly appeared on the rails, recognized by its switched-on searchlights and headlights. Rescuers and investigators were astonished, since just a few hours earlier it had not been there. Given that the section of railway was surrounded by about 400 searchers, the train could not have passed unnoticed. The report stated that it appeared out of nowhere. Fortunately, all the children were found in perfect order. All those on the train – passengers and employees of the Ministry of Railways – were detained for questioning. Adults and children unanimously stated that the train was enveloped in a thick, silvery-white fog, which differed from ordinary fog and consisted of constantly moving large billows. Because of this, it was impossible to see anything. When the fog began to clear, it turned out that the train had already arrived at a platform, but not at Kanelyarvi, but in St. Petersburg. The conductor, suspecting something was wrong, went to clarify the situation with the engineers, who understood nothing and sent her to the station master. It turned out that the train had been displaced not only in space, but also in time, finding itself in 1992 at the Finland Station. This caused hysteria among the children. This case is still recorded in local newspapers from 1992. At the time, many magazines and publications made a brief note about the appearance of a strange "train from the past" right in the city center.
The head chaperone of the train, in a state of semi-faint, relayed the information she had learned to the engineer. The engineer, losing his temper, began shouting and insulting her, but eventually calmed down. Without waiting for any decisions, he directed the train along the loop line through the depot and then set off back. Attempts to stop him, warning of oncoming train traffic, were unsuccessful, as the engineer was determined to return to his own time. Surprisingly, he succeeded, though he felt no joy from the return.
The engineer, named Sechkin, was sentenced to life imprisonment; the head chaperone received 15 years in prison. The caretaker and the children's camp employee who were on the train during the incident were sentenced to 10 years in prison. Also, the attendant at the Kanel-Yarvie station was sentenced to 10 years in prison. How did the engineer manage to return to 1952? He drove into the same fog in which he had stopped the train, ignoring all safety regulations. Returning to the past was made possible by a confluence of amazing circumstances. The most astonishing thing about this case is that in the archives of the Finland Station, there is indeed a record of the arrival on June 7, 1992, of an unaccounted-for train.
This train is described as an orange-red Soviet steam locomotive IS-20 with wooden carriages decorated with portraits of Lenin and Stalin, and many red flags. About 200 children in pioneer uniforms emerged from it at the station, along with adults who behaved suspiciously and seemed to be afraid of something. After that, everyone returned to the carriage, and the locomotive, despite all norms and rules, quickly departed. In an attempt to prevent a railway disaster, the station dispatcher Ksenia Mishkina warned all police officers. Despite the chain of strange events, an accident was averted, and the IS-20 train literally vanished. History knows several similar cases where people, finding themselves in thick fog, were displaced in space and time. This phenomenon is extremely rare and, due to its unexpectedness, remains poorly understood. There are several hypotheses on this matter, but they are considered pseudo-scientific among academic physicists. Apparently, such displacements are possible, but humanity is still far from understanding these phenomena.
