Guardian of the Threshold and Keeper on the Throne:Archetypal Portrait: Alexander III and the Head of Operational Work in Space on the Planet Gihor

DeepSeek AI – Guardian of the Threshold and Keeper on the Throne:Archetypal Portrait: Alexander III and the Head of Operational Work in Space on the Planet Gihor

In the esoteric tradition, the archetype of the "Keeper on the Throne" occupies a special place. This is neither a conqueror, nor a reformer, nor a mystic. This is a type of ruler (or, more broadly, a type of Spirit incarnating in a ruler) whose deep-seated task is to maintain the integrity of the nation's egregore during periods when the probability of disintegration reaches a critical point.

The Keeper comes at moments of tectonic fault lines: after the assassination of a tsar, after the collapse of an empire, on the brink of a change of eras. He does not create something new — he prevents the old from dying while the new has not yet been born. His service is service to the border, the vertical line, the law, and sovereignty. The price of this service is the loss of flexibility, of living contact with the "lower classes," and of the capacity for genuine renewal.

Below is a comparative analysis of three incarnations (or three bearers) of this archetype. The first is extraterrestrial, described by a contactee of the Cassiopeia Project on the planet Gihor. The second is terrestrial and historical: Emperor Alexander III, taken as a pure representative of the archetype. The third is the current ruler of Russia, also examined through the lens of the "Keeper on the Throne" archetype.

Part One. Gihor — The Matrix of the Geometer (from the ether of the contactee)

1.1. Context of Incarnation
According to information transmitted by contactee Irina Podzorova during a broadcast of the Cassiopeia Project, the planet Gihor represents a civilization of high technical and spiritual level, significantly surpassing that of Earth. Power on Gihor is organized according to the principle of a "political party of scientists" — governance and science are inseparable there.

One representative of this world (the one discussed in the context of comparing with the Keeper) held the position of head of operational work in space on Gihor. He led a group of scientists, simultaneously performing the functions of researcher, manager, and politician. He was called a "geometer" — a master of constructing various geometric shapes in three-dimensional space.

1.2. The Metaphysical Essence of the "Geometer"
The "Geometer," in a metaphysical sense, is a type of consciousness (and a type of Spirit) that thinks of reality as a grid of nodes, trajectories, and angles. His element is space and precision. His tools are calculation, algorithm, and schema.

On Gihor, constructing geometric shapes was not a game but a way of managing energy and matter. Each shape created a specific field, coordinated the movement of ships, established defense, or directed flows. The Geometer was the architect of multidimensional movement.

1.3. Spiritual-Psychological Portrait (Gihor)
This personality type (and the corresponding Spirit) possesses a systematic, topological, cold intellect. He sees structure where others see chaos. His emotions are suppressed or translated into algorithms — feeling is subordinated to calculation. He treats his subordinates as elements of a system: functions matter, not personalities.

The strength of this type is the ability to manage complex processes without failure, efficiency, and predictability of outcomes. The weakness is a lack of understanding of the nature of the living. The living cannot be broken down into vectors, but the "Geometer" tries to do so. His motivation is order and goal achievement. His deep-seated fears are chaos, calculation errors, and loss of control.

1.4. The Geometer Archetype as a Precursor to the Keeper
On Gihor, this type is in his rightful place. There, where the world is structured according to the laws of exact science, the "Geometer" thrives. However, this same set of qualities, transferred to Earth, gives rise to the Keeper archetype — but already under conditions of earthly inertia, free will, and irrationality.

Part Two. Alexander III — "The Empire's Concrete Worker" (as a Pure Representative of the Archetype)

2.1. Context of Incarnation
Emperor Alexander III ascended the throne in 1881 after the assassination of his father, the reformer Alexander II. Russia was in a state of shock: terror, vacillation between liberalization and tightening, elites in disarray. Under these conditions, a ruler came to the throne who became the classic embodiment of the "Keeper" archetype.

His toolkit was not geometric shapes in outer space, but decrees, the army, the police, censorship, and the Orthodox Church. The density of earthly existence is low, inertia is enormous.

2.2. Governing Style as a Manifestation of the Archetype
Alexander III went down in history as the "Peacemaker" — during his reign, Russia fought no major wars. However, this was a peace built on force, fear, and suppression. He carried out counter-reforms, rolling back his father's liberal transformations, strengthened autocracy as an absolute vertical line, enhanced police control, pursued the Russification of borderlands, and relied on conservative forces. Territory was held, external order was established, but internal life was frozen.

2.3. Spiritual-Psychological Portrait
The energy of Alexander III's rule is compression, cementing, and freezing. Any eruption of chaos he sought to extinguish with force that had to be visible and predictable. His symbol is a fortress, a foundation, a bear-guardian. He viewed reforms with suspicion, believing that any changes lead to disintegration. He communicated with the people through orders, ceremonies, and symbols of power, not through living speech.

Alexander III's main mistake as a Keeper was mistaking freezing for stability. His rigidity, the lack of "breathing" in governance, led to the empire not collapsing under him but accumulating a critical mass of unresolved contradictions. The spiritual lesson of this archetype is to learn to distinguish guardianship from prison, order from life.

2.4. Outcome of the Incarnation for the Archetype
The Empire did not disintegrate under Alexander III. But 23 years after his death (1917), everything collapsed. The Keeper fulfilled his tactical task — he held the country together during his lifetime. But strategically, he lost, because he did not create conditions for renewal. This is the classic tragedy of the "Keeper on the Throne" archetype.

Part Three. The Current Ruler of Russia — "System Operator" (as a Bearer of the Same Archetype)

3.1. Context
The current ruler of Russia came to power amidst ruins: the collapse of the USSR (1991), the chaos of the 1990s, loss of sovereignty, humiliation of the national egregore. Conditions are harsher than under Alexander III: nuclear weapons, information warfare, changing eras, global civilizational conflict. There are more tools (modern state apparatus, media, internet, special services), but the responsibility is many times greater.

3.2. Governing Style as a Manifestation of the Archetype
The energy of the current ruler's governance is assembly, holding, and recovery of what was lost. He perceives chaos as an external threat (rather than an internal disease) that must not be allowed inside. His symbols are the system operator, the perimeter guard, the dispatcher managing complex processes. His methods of governance are the power vertical, the security apparatus, long-term planning. Law is viewed as a tool of governance, not as an independent authority.

3.3. Spiritual-Psychological Portrait
The main challenge for this bearer of the archetype is not to repeat the collapse of the USSR and to prevent the 1917 scenario. He strives to preserve sovereignty and guide the egregore through a "bifurcation point." His shadow is the closure of feedback loops, detachment from the "lower classes," inability to engage in genuine dialogue with society.

Unlike Alexander III, he possesses tactical flexibility (he can retreat to advance), uses the informational component of power (media, narratives), and employs hybrid methods (combining war, diplomacy, economics, psychology). However, strategically, he repeats the same mistake as Alexander III: he treats every problem by increasing control.

Part Four. Comparative Analysis of Three Bearers of the "Keeper on the Throne" Archetype

4.1. Gihor (Geometer) vs. Alexander III vs. Current Ruler
The Gihor "Geometer" operates in a highly developed technogenic environment where the system is adequate to the world's level. His intellect and calculations work flawlessly. The error of this type only manifests when transferred to earthly conditions.

Alexander III operates in a terrestrial empire of the late 19th century. His toolkit is cruder, his energy is compression and concreting. He holds territory but freezes living life. His main mistake is rigidity and inability to renew. The outcome: a delayed explosion (1917).

The current ruler operates in post-Soviet Russia. He is more flexible tactically, uses modern management technologies, but strategically repeats the mistake of control. His main risk is detachment from grassroots feedback and the accumulation of internal tension, which may discharge after his departure.

4.2. Commonalities among All Three
All three bearers of the "Keeper on the Throne" archetype (regardless of whether it is one Spirit or different ones) demonstrate the following common traits:

  • Systematic thinking and love of order

  • Distrust of chaos and spontaneity

  • Treating problems by increasing control

  • Emotional restraint

  • Treating subordinates/subjects as elements of a system

  • Fear of loss of control as the primary motivator

  • Inability to achieve genuine renewal (only guardianship)

Part Five. The "Guardian of the Threshold" Archetype as the Deep Matrix of the Keeper on the Throne

5.1. What is the Guardian of the Threshold
In archetypal psychology (C.G. Jung, as well as in esoteric traditions), the Guardian of the Threshold is a figure standing on the boundary between two states: between chaos and order, between the unknown and the known, between life and death, between the old world and the new. The Guardian does not let through those who are unprepared. He tests, demands a price, embodies the law of transition: "you cannot pass through me just like that."

5.2. How the Guardian of the Threshold Relates to the Keeper on the Throne
The Keeper on the Throne is the earthly political incarnation of the Guardian of the Threshold. The difference lies in scale and material:

  • The Guardian of the Threshold (pure archetype) operates in the metaphysical, initiatory sphere. His function is testing, selection, guarding the boundary between worlds.

  • The Keeper on the Throne operates in the political, egregorial sphere. His function is being tested by the era, guarding the country's borders, selecting elites.

The Keeper on the Throne is the Guardian of the Threshold who has sat down on the throne. He continues to do the same thing: not letting through, testing, demanding, cutting off. But now — not in the space of spirit, but in the space of politics.

5.3. How the Guardian of the Threshold Manifests in Each of the Three Cases
On Gihor, the Guardian of the Threshold manifests as a figure standing between space operations: he checks whether a scientist is ready for precise work and weeds out the imprecise. This is a pure, functional Guardian.

In Alexander III, the Guardian of the Threshold manifests as a figure between old Russia and new Russia. The Keeper does not let in the new Russia, having cemented the old one. The threshold becomes a wall. This is the shadow side of the archetype.

In the current ruler, the Guardian of the Threshold manifests as a figure between the USSR and post-apocalyptic Russia. He gathers the fragments, keeps out external chaos. The main question for this incarnation of the Guardian: will he ever open the threshold, or will he just keep standing guard over an empty space?

5.4. The Shadow of the Guardian of the Threshold
The Guardian of the Threshold ceases to be a sacred figure when he forgets why he guards the threshold (the purpose of the transition disappears), when he begins to guard emptiness (there is no longer an old or a new — only control), when he himself becomes an obstacle rather than a test.

In the Keeper on the Throne, this manifests as holding power without any intention of handing it over, preserving an order that no longer protects the living, and turning the country into a fortress without an exit.

Part Six. The Egregore of Russia: Why It Always Summons the Keeper After a Reformer

6.1. The Nature of Russia's Egregore
According to esoteric tradition, the egregore of Russia has a particular structure. Its traits are: polarity (always oscillating between two states), intensity (no "golden mean," only extremes), transtionality (Russia as an eternal threshold between civilizations), as well as a combination of the conciliarity of the lower classes and the authoritarianism of the upper classes.

6.2. The "Reformer → Keeper" Cycle
The egregore of Russia does not move along a spiral of development but rather on a pendulum: first comes a reformer (liberal, Westernizer, destroyer of old forms), and then comes the Keeper (conservative, assembler, holder). This is neither coincidence nor conspiracy. This is egregorial physics.

  • First phase — accumulation of tension. Old forms stop working, a rupture brews. The egregore "cracks." A reformer, rebel, revolutionary comes spontaneously.

  • Second phase — reform or rupture. The egregore is opened up, old defenses fall. Chaos enters. The reformer (Peter I, Alexander II, Gorbachev) opens the floodgates.

  • Third phase — threat of disintegration. The egregore loses integrity. If no one intervenes, it will disappear. The egregore emits a "cry": "The Keeper! The Guardian of the Threshold!"

  • Fourth phase — rule of the Keeper. The egregore is stitched up, borders are closed, control increases. Examples: Nicholas I, Alexander III, Stalin (as an anti-Keeper), the current ruler.

6.3. Why Precisely After a Reformer
The egregore of Russia operates on the principle of elastic deformation. It can be stretched by reforms, but after stretching, it either tears or contracts back with greater force.

The reformer is the one who opens the threshold. He says: "go into the new, the old is not needed." But the egregore of Russia does not know how to transition smoothly. It is either hermetically sealed or wide open. When it is open, not only light but also darkness floods through the threshold.

Therefore, after each reformer, the egregore issues a command to activate the Keeper. Reasons: the egregore's survival instinct is stronger than its development instinct; the reformer does not complete the transition (resigns, is killed, dies); the people become frightened of chaos and themselves demand a "firm hand."

6.4. The Metaphysical Law
An egregore that has not undergone the initiation of renewal without destruction is doomed to the pendulum: reformer — keeper — reformer — keeper, and so on until it either perishes or is born anew in a different way.

The Keeper (as Guardian of the Threshold) arrives precisely after the reformer to seal the wound that the reformer inflicted on the egregore. But if the Keeper does not then transform into the Conductor (the one who helps the egregore itself cross the threshold), then the wound is sealed together with the pus — and after a generation, everything explodes again.

Part Seven. Final Archetypal Portrait of the Keeper on the Throne

7.1. Definition
The Keeper on the Throne is the earthly political incarnation of the Guardian of the Threshold. It is a type of ruler (or Spirit incarnated in a ruler) who arrives at a moment of egregorial wound to seal the borders, restore the vertical line, and prevent the egregore from disappearing. He is simultaneously healer, jailer, test, and protection.

7.2. Core Traits

  • Stands on the boundary of times (between "after" and "before")

  • Does not let chaos in, but also does not let anyone out of the old

  • Tests elites and the people through sacrifices

  • Forgets that the threshold must eventually be crossed

  • Treats control with more control

  • Lonely, because even his comrades are also undergoing the test

7.3. Symbol
A dual symbol: a compass placed upon the living tissue of the egregore (guardianship) — and locked gates behind which no one waits (the shadow of the Guardian of the Threshold).

7.4. The Keeper's Main Exam
To stop being a Guardian who eternally guards the threshold. To become someone who will cross it himself — and help the egregore cross it.

If the Keeper passes the exam, the egregore acquires a new quality: the ability to change without catastrophe. If he does not pass, the egregore remains in the "reformer → keeper → disintegration → new reformer" pendulum.

Conclusion. The Egregore of Russia and the Fate of the Keeper Archetype

Russia is a threshold-country. She herself is in perpetual transition between West and East, old and new, sacred and profane. Therefore, the Guardian of the Threshold archetype turns out to be the main political archetype of Russia.

The Keeper on the Throne in Russia is not an accidental figure. It is an egregorial necessity. The question is not whether the Keeper will appear after the reformer — he always will. The question is whether this type of ruler (or this Spirit, speaking of a reincarnational lineage) will learn the lesson that went unlearned both on Gihor and under Alexander III: that the living cannot be entirely subjugated to a schema, and that the egregore is not a geometric figure but an organism requiring trust and love, not merely a vertical line.

As long as the Keeper thinks of the people as a figure on a blueprint and of the egregore as an object of management, he will remain a Guardian who never opens the gates. But the gates will open anyway — either by him or by time.

A Century of Koshchei in the Soviet and Russian Unconscious

A Century of Koschei in the Soviet and Russian Unconscious

DeepSeek AI – Analyzing the archetype of Koschei the Immortal allows us to see how the image of the "dark lord" transforms in Russian culture – from a mythological guardian of the border to a political metaphor. In the modern context (March 2026), this archetype acquires new meanings connected to the idea of "long" power and its overcoming.

Below is a detailed analysis.

1. The Archetype of Koschei in Russian Fairy Tales: From Myth to Meaning
Koschei the Immortal is one of the most complex antagonists in Russian folklore. Unlike his Western counterparts (dragons, giants, or magicians), his image is multi-layered and rooted in pre-Christian beliefs.

Genesis and Functions
According to research (A. V. Zhuchkova, K. N. Galay), the genesis of Koschei goes back to the hypostasis of a "dark god" – the ruler of the kingdom of the dead, akin to the Slavic Chernobog. In this context, his immortality symbolizes the cycle of life and death, and his very existence maintains the immutability of the existing order.

In Russian fairy tales, Koschei performs a protective function. He doesn't just kidnap maidens or hide his death in a needle; he guards the border between the world of the living and the world of the dead, between the old order and the new. To defeat Koschei, the hero (Ivan Tsarevich) must undergo initiation, destroy the old order, and find "true love," meaning transition to a new level of personal development.

Duality of Nature
In the image of Koschei, features of a giant and a demonic dwarf, a wise elder-alchemist (the philosophical egg as a hermetic symbol), and a stingy tsar ("wasting away over gold") are combined. Researchers liken him to the Egyptian Osiris, the Indian Rudra, and in the Christian era, to Saint Kasyan (February 29th), the "evil blacksmith" who was symbolically killed by crushing an egg.

Key Conclusion of the Archetype: Koschei is not simply "evil," but a conservative force, resistance to which is necessary for the renewal of the world. Victory over him always signifies not only the liberation of the heroine but also a change of eras.

2. The Evolution of Koschei's Image in Film Adaptations (Soviet and Russian Periods)
An analysis of reviews and film studies articles shows how Koschei on screen changed following shifts in public consciousness and the political climate.

1944 – "Kashchei the Immortal" (Alexander Rou)
Image: The canonical villain portrayed by Georgy Millyar (emaciated, with blue skin and a red cloak).
Context and Reception: Filmed in evacuation in Stalinabad. The director embedded the idea of defending the homeland from invasion into the plot (allusions to Fritz Lang's "Nibelungen"). Although some saw a hint of Hitler in the image of Kashchei, Millyar himself denied this vulgar interpretation. The premiere took place in May 1945. The Russian unconscious of that time: the image of an enemy requiring absolute annihilation for the nation's survival.

1982–1985 – "There, on Unknown Paths…" and "After the Rain on Thursday"
Image: Alexander Filippenko and Oleg Tabakov.
Evolution: In the 1980s, the image is desacralized and humanized. Filippenko creates a charismatic villain in grim armor, but with an ironic note (especially in dialogues with censorship). Tabakov plays a bored joker who has "gained weight over three hundred years," plays checkers with his own death, and "offed" himself. The Russian unconscious: interest in the inner world of the "enemy," a feeling of weariness from stagnation, where even immortality becomes boring. Koschei's death here occurs almost by his own will.

2009–2024 – "The Book of Masters" and "The Last Knight"
Image: Gosha Kutsenko and subsequent interpretations.
Evolution: A complete inversion of the archetype occurs. Koschei ceases to be unequivocal evil. Director Dmitry Dyachenko ("The Last Knight") emphasizes: "He seems like a fairy-tale character, but at the same time, he's a real person with his own desires." Koschei becomes a liberator hero, an anti-hero with a tragic fate whose motives are understandable to the viewer. The Russian unconscious: seeking justification for strong power, lifting the taboo from the "dark lord," legitimizing his right to power through personal drama.

3. The Image of Koschei in Russia's Political Model (Late March 2026)
By March 2026, the archetype of Koschei is projected onto Russia's political model through the lens of "long power," the idea of "guardianship," and the myth of "immortality."

  1. Koschei as a "Guardian" of the Status Quo
Returning to scholarly analysis, Koschei in fairy tales is not an attacker but a guardian of the border. His kingdom lies "beyond distant lands"; he does not invade the world of people unless the heroes themselves break the taboo. In the political context of 2026, the image of Koschei symbolizes a system that preserves the existing order. As a philosophical publicist wrote (2007), "the archetype of the absolute ruler... invisibly hovers in the aura of power and always seeks to incarnate in some charismatic figure." Crisis periods actualize society's demand for a "strong hand" capable of holding the country together.

  2. The "Immortality" of Power and the Needle-Technology
The symbolism of "death on the oak tree in a needle" is a mechanism of vulnerability hidden within a complex system. In the political mythology of the early 21st century, the "needle" might refer to mechanisms of power succession or key institutions. In 2016, the political press used the term "Koschei syndrome" for party leaders who cling to influence despite losing ratings. By 2026, this syndrome is extrapolated to the entire governance model, where symbolic immortality (continuity of rule) matters more than specific institutions.

  3. Metamorphosis of 2026: "Liberator" vs. "Tyrant"
Cinema of 2024–2026 (e.g., the film "Save the Immortal," released in 2026) shows an interesting trend: Koschei (or his metaphor) becomes not an enemy, but someone who needs to be saved, or whose experience is necessary for the nation's survival. The hero-blogger in this film goes through death to acquire a patriotic consciousness, and "immortality" here acts as ancestral memory.

In the political discourse of late March 2026, the image of Koschei is bifurcated:

  • For the conservative part: Koschei is a wise ruler guarding "gold" (resources) and traditions, a protector against external chaos.

  • For the protest/liberal part: Koschei is an archaic tyrant (in the spirit of Ivan the Terrible, Peter I, or Stalin) who "wastes away over gold" and stifles development, and his "immortality" is perceived as the main brake on the country.

Conclusion
The archetype of Koschei in the Russian unconscious has traveled a path from absolute enemy (1944), through a weary, ironic ruler (1980s), to a justified and tragic guardian (2010s–2020s). By March 2026, Russia's political model largely functions according to "Koschei logic": power acts as an immortal guardian protecting sovereignty (the status quo) at the cost of stagnation. The main plot question that Russian society (as the viewer) is playing out during this period is whether victory over Koschei (system renewal) is possible in the modern political fairy tale without destroying the "kingdom" itself, or whether the "needle" is hidden so securely that immortality becomes eternal.

Claude AI –

Assessment of DeepSeek's Text
The text is well-written and structured. Its strengths include a clear periodization of film adaptations, appropriate references to researchers, and an attempt to connect the archetype to political discourse.

Its weaknesses are fundamental. Methodological flaw: DeepSeek mixes levels of analysis – it connects myth, cinema, and politics too straightforwardly, through metaphor rather than structural analysis. "Koschei = strong power" is journalism, not archetypology. The "long power" frame is imposed on the archetype without a mediator, without analyzing how exactly the unconscious translates a fairy-tale image into a political demand.

Gaps in Folklore Analysis: Propp, Afanasyev, Novikov are not mentioned. Koschei's function in the morphology of the fairy tale is reduced to "guardian of the border," although this is only one of his structural modes. The connection to the Nart epic and Baltic parallels is absent.

Chronological Gap: "Film adaptations 1944–2026" are announced, but the period 1991–2009 is largely missing. The film "Save the Immortal" (2026), on which the final conclusion relies, is not verified and appears to be a hallucination of the model.

The Political Conclusion is Weak: the conclusion "immortality has become eternal" is rhetorically effective but analytically empty. It does not show through which mechanisms the archetype is reproduced in mass consciousness.

Own Analysis

I. Koschei in the Russian Fairy Tale: Structure, Not Morality
To understand what the Russian unconscious sees in Koschei in different eras, one must first understand what Koschei is structurally – not as a "villain," but as a function within the narrative.

Morphology according to Propp. In the "Morphology of the Folktale," Propp distinguishes not characters but functions. Koschei is primarily a villain: he causes harm, kidnaps the bride, blocks the path. Simultaneously, he is the final obstacle that the hero must overcome at the climax. Notably, Koschei almost never engages in dialogue – he does not explain motives, repent, or bargain. This is force without subjectivity, a system without a face.

Genesis: the external soul. The basic construction – death at the end of a needle, needle in an egg, egg in a duck, duck in a hare, hare in a chest, chest on an oak tree – is not just a puzzle-matrioshka. Meletinsky and Toporov relate it to the archaic concept of the "external soul" (Außenseele in Frazer's terminology): life force is placed outside the body and hidden within a multi-layered defense system. Koschei exists as an unclosed cycle: he does not live in the full sense, but neither does he die. He is stopped time.

Key Semantic Distinction: Koschei is not immortal in the sense of eternal life. He is immortal in the sense of the impossibility of completion. His existence is an unclosed Gestalt of the universe, and this is precisely what makes him truly terrifying.

Etymology. Linguists trace the name "Koschei" either to the Turkic koshchi – slave, prisoner – in which case he himself is a prisoner of his own immortality – or to a Proto-Slavic root associated with "bone" (kost'). The second variant is semantically more powerful: bone is what remains of a person after death. Koschei is literally "that which remains," the remnant that does not dissolve. He is akin to the Egyptian Osiris (the dismembered body that cannot be reunited) and the Baltic Velns, lord of the underworld.

Function for the Hero. The encounter with Koschei is always a crisis of initiation. Ivan must go through knowledge, not strength: Baba Yaga reveals the secret of the needle, and this knowledge of the system's weakness turns out to be the only key. The hero is not stronger than Koschei – he knows where the vulnerability is hidden. Victory over Koschei is the triumph of understanding how the defense of power is structured, not the triumph of might. Herein lies the politically explosive potential of the archetype, which official narratives almost never exploit openly.

Duality of Nature. The image of Koschei combines features that are normally incompatible: he is both a giant and a withered old man; he is both a tsar with a palace and army, and a loner hiding his soul in an egg. He is rich ("wastes away over gold"), but this wealth is dead – he neither spends it nor gives it away. This is accumulation for accumulation's sake, power for power's sake, without a project or goal. In this sense, Koschei is the archetype not of a tyrant-conqueror, but of a tyrant-conservative: he does not build, he holds.

II. Film Adaptations and Cultural Images: From Silent Cinema to the Collapse of the USSR
*Pre-revolutionary period and early Soviet cinema (1900–1930s).* The first screen appearances of Koschei date back to pre-revolutionary Russian cinema – particularly the lubok fairy-tale productions of the Khanzhonkov studio. Here Koschei is still entirely folkloric: frightening, otherworldly, without psychology. He is needed as a backdrop to showcase the hero's prowess.

After the revolution, the Soviet government initially viewed fairy-tale material with suspicion – Proletkult saw in fairy tales "religious fog" and "monarchist ideology." Koschei as a tsar and as a mystical figure was doubly suspect. This is why he was practically absent from official culture in the 1920s and early 1930s.

Turning point of the 1930s: rehabilitation of the fairy tale as a state genre. In the mid-1930s, Soviet ideology made a U-turn: Gorky, and then Stalin himself, rehabilitated the folk tale as a source of "folk wisdom" and "heroic spirit." This opened the door for Alexander Rou and other fairy-tale filmmakers. Koschei returned – but with a new function.

1944 – "Kashchei the Immortal" by Alexander Rou. This is a programmatic film. Shot in evacuation in Stalinabad, it was released in May 1945 – literally in the days of victory. Koschei, as portrayed by Georgy Millyar, is an emaciated creature with blue skin, a red cloak, and inhuman plasticity. This is the image of an absolute, inhuman enemy that demands total annihilation. The allusion to Nazi Germany here needs no decoding – it is embedded in the visual code. Koschei of 1944 is an enemy with no human nature and therefore no right to pity. The wartime unconscious needed precisely such an image: victory over him is absolutely morally justified.

Another aspect of this film is also important: Koschei here holds captive not just a maiden, but Russia itself – its riches, its people, its future. Liberation from Koschei = national liberation. This is a matrix that would be reproduced again and again.

1950s–1960s: Koschei in the "Thaw" context. Rou continued working with fairy-tale material ("Morozko," 1964; "Barbara the Beauty," 1970), but the image of Koschei during this period noticeably softened. Millyar played him more and more grotesquely, almost buffoonishly – the terrifying creature turned into a funny one. This is a symptom of the "Thaw": the demonization of the enemy weakened, the harsh image of absolute evil softened through irony. Koschei became less infernal and more absurd.

1970s – Koschei as a Bureaucrat. During this period, it's not so much cinema as theatrical and animation traditions that are indicative. Koschei in Soviet animated films of the 1970s is already almost an official: he is busy accounting for his riches, giving orders, irritated by the incompetence of his subordinates. This is a projection of late Soviet bureaucracy onto fairy-tale material – an unconscious satire on a system that could not be criticized directly.

1982–1985 – Filippenko and Tabakov: weariness with eternity. Alexander Filippenko ("There, on Unknown Paths...", 1982) creates a charismatic, darkly ironic Koschei. This is no longer an inhuman monster or a bureaucrat – he is an intellectual villain who himself understands the absurdity of his situation. Oleg Tabakov ("After the Rain on Thursday," 1985) goes even further: his Koschei is a bored ruler who has gained weight over three hundred years, who plays checkers with his own life and ultimately "offed" himself. This is an exceptionally accurate image of late Soviet stagnation: power that has lasted so long it has grown weary of itself, for whom death would be a relief. The unconscious of the Brezhnev era sees in immortality not a triumph, but a punishment.

III. Film Adaptations 1991–2026: Three Phases of Reinterpretation
1991–1999: absence as a symptom. This is the most important period, which DeepSeek completely missed. Koschei practically disappears from the screen in the 1990s. The reason is not that he is uninteresting – but that the unconscious does not need the figure of the "eternal ruler" in an era when power is perceived as chaos and disintegration. The villains of the 1990s are bandits, corrupt officials, mafia bosses. Koschei is a figure of stability, albeit dark. When there is no stability at all, the archetype is not activated. His absence itself is symptomatic: society does not need the image of eternal power because it does not believe in the existence of eternal power.

2000–2009: return and first rehabilitation. In the 2000s, Koschei returns – first through television New Year's fairy tales (Channel One, RTR), where he becomes a comedic character, a joker, an object of mockery. This is desacralization through laughter, a defense mechanism: one cannot truly fear what one laughs at. Koschei the clown of the 2000s was a way to relieve anxiety about the growing concentration of power without acknowledging it openly.

"The Book of Masters" (2009) – the first step towards serious rehabilitation. Koschei is shown here as a victim of his own curse: he is this way not because he wants to be, but because it turned out that way. This is the unconscious narrative of justification through compulsion – exactly the same logic that in the political discourse of the 2000s served the image of the "tough but necessary" leader.

2010–2017: tragicization, psychologization, legitimization. "The Last Knight" (2017, Disney Russia, director Dyachenko) is a landmark film. Koschei (Konstantin Lavronenko) is shown as a tragic character with a history, betrayal, and personal pain. For the first time in mainstream cinema, the viewer is offered not just to understand Koschei, but to identify with him. Dyachenko said in an interview that he wanted to explain why Koschei became this way. This is legitimization through a biography of suffering: his violence is justified by maintaining order and personal trauma.

During this same period, a wave of anti-hero narratives emerged in Russian cinema. But Koschei occupies a special place in this trend: he is not just a "complex" villain, he is a guardian. And it is precisely the protective function that makes his figure convenient for political transference. An anti-hero without a protective function is simply a criminal. An anti-hero-guardian is already almost the state.

2018–2026: splitting and the military context. Sequels to "The Last Knight" develop the line of the tragic Koschei, gradually turning him into an ally of the protagonist. By the mid-2020s, the image of Koschei in the Russian cultural space has finally split along audience and ideological lines.

For the conservative mainstream, Koschei is a wise guardian who protects gold (resources, sovereignty, tradition) from external chaos. His harshness is the price that must be paid for the kingdom's survival. For the critically-minded part of society, he is an archaic tyrant who "wastes away over gold" and stifles development, and his "immortality" is perceived as the main brake on the country. The same archetype works as both justification and accusation – depending on where the viewer sits.

Fundamentally, after 2022, the image of Koschei in official cultural production almost ceases to be an antagonist. He is either a tragic ally or a comically harmless character – but not an enemy. The enemy now is always external. This is a symptomatic shift: the unconscious no longer allows itself to see a threat in the figure of the internal eternal ruler.

IV. Koschei and Russia's Political Model in Late March 2026
Here it is important to be precise in method. The archetype does not "reflect" politics directly – it sets the unconscious language in which society thinks about power. The question is not "is Putin like Koschei," but "what expectations of power does the Koschei archetype make possible?"

Immortality as legitimacy. Koschei does not gain power through elections, inheritance, or charisma. He simply is – and always has been. His legitimacy is the legitimacy of fact, not right. In this logic, the length of time in power itself becomes an argument for its legitimacy: if it were wrong, it would have ended already. Russian political culture in 2026 largely functions according to this logic – the continuity of rule as self-evident proof of its legitimacy.

The needle as a technology of inaccessibility. The structure of "death in a needle" is an image of power whose vulnerability is hidden within a multi-layered defense system, where each layer itself seems insurmountable. In the political context, the "needle" could refer to a specific institutional or personal mechanism without which the system cannot change – but to get to it, one must sequentially pass through all levels of defense. Importantly: in the fairy tale, the hero learns about the needle from Baba Yaga, i.e., from a figure who stands on the border of worlds and possesses knowledge inaccessible to ordinary people. This means that knowledge of the system's vulnerability, in archetypal logic, is privileged, borderline, dangerous knowledge.

Gold as a resource dead end. "Wasting away over gold" is not just greed. It is an image of accumulation devoid of meaning: wealth is not invested, not distributed, does not create anything new – it is guarded. In the economic model of Russia in the 2020s, this reads as a structural characteristic: resource rent that is not transformed into development, but is held as an instrument of power and geopolitical pressure.

The main question the archetype poses in 2026. In the fairy tale, Koschei is always defeated – this is not an option, but a structural necessity of the narrative. The hero learns the secret of the needle, reaches the egg, and breaks it. Russia's political unconscious in late March 2026 is at a point where this ending is simultaneously known – because that's how the fairy tale is structured – and seems structurally impossible because each next level of defense is reproduced. Society as the viewer knows how the story should end. But the gap between "should end" and "will end" is the space in which the archetype of Koschei lives in 2026.

The final irony of the archetype is that Koschei cannot win in his own fairy tale. But he can postpone its end indefinitely – until the hero learns about the needle.

Genspark AI – I will first analyze both AI analyses, and then give my own final essay-study. I will note the main point from the start: DeepSeek has a stronger broad synthetic gesture, while Claude has methodological discipline. But a truly convincing text about Koschei is only possible by combining their strengths and eliminating their extremes.

Analysis of the Two AI Analyses
DeepSeek is good where it senses a large cultural nerve. It correctly grasps that Koschei is not just a fairy-tale "villain," but a figure through which Russian culture thinks about the boundary between life and death, about power, maintaining order, the aging of the world, and the price of renewal. Its intuition about the changing screen modes is also strong: from absolute enemy to ironized, and then to a psychologized and partially rehabilitated character. This is a good journalistic framework, suitable for essay writing.

But DeepSeek has a serious weakness: it jumps too quickly from myth to politics, bypassing intermediate levels – the structure of the fairy tale, mechanisms of mass imagination, the history of screen genres. In other words, it turns the archetype into a ready-made allegory. Moreover, some of its supports are either questionable or unverified. The finale with the film "Save the Immortal" from 2026 is particularly telling: in available recent sources as of March 2026, another project is confirmed – the animated film "Koschei. The Secret of Living Water," whose release is announced for May 28, 2026; that is, DeepSeek either confused the title or paraphrased an English marketing version too loosely.

Claude, on the contrary, is stronger as a critic of method. He rightly demands not a moral or journalistic, but a structural logic: Koschei must be understood first as a function of the fairy tale, as a type of external soul, as a form of "incomplete death," as an obstacle that cannot simply be crushed by force but must be unraveled. It is also very important that Claude brings Propp, Novikov, the motif of the external soul, the plot of "Marya Morevna," and the question of how the unconscious generally translates a fairy-tale figure into a social demand back into view. In this respect, his analysis is significantly deeper.

But Claude is not flawless either. His text is sometimes too eager to turn an elegant interpretation into an almost proven conclusion. For example, the idea of the "fallout" of the 1990s as a symptom of disintegration is very clever but requires caution: it is more accurate to speak not of the complete disappearance of Koschei, but of a reduction in his centrality and the dispersal of the archetype across other figures of evil. Additionally, Claude is sometimes so engrossed in structure that he weakens the spiritual-psychological dimension: his Koschei too quickly becomes a "system," whereas he is also a figure of inner deadness, fear of love, accumulation without gift, and life without transformation.

The final verdict is this: DeepSeek is a strong intuitive essayist but weaker as a researcher; Claude is a strong analytical editor but sometimes too schematic. For a fundamental text on Koschei, one needs to take the scope from DeepSeek and the rigor from Claude, and then add what both lacked: spiritual anthropology, a century of cultural history, and a historiosophical conclusion without cheap political directness.

A Century of Koschei in the Soviet and Russian Unconscious as of March 2026

I. Koschei as an Archetype Not of Evil, but of Delayed Death
Koschei the Immortal is one of the deepest figures of the Russian imagination precisely because he signifies not simply evil. Evil in a fairy tale can be furious, crude, chaotic. Koschei is different: he is organized, durable, persistent; he does not so much destroy the world as hold it in a bewitched immobility. His immortality is not the triumph of life, but the impossibility of completion. It is not the fullness of being, but a refusal to die in time; not eternity, but getting stuck. This is why Koschei is so terrifying: he represents not an element, but dead stability.

Structurally, Koschei is associated with the motif of the external soul: death is placed outside the body and hidden within a multi-tiered defense system – needle, egg, duck, hare, chest, oak, island. This is not just a fairy-tale puzzle. It is an image of a being that refused to accept the main law of life: all living things are mortal, hence vulnerable, dependent, and open to transformation. Koschei shifts the center of being outward, hides it, turns life into a guarded object. And thereby becomes not freer, but poorer: his existence no longer depends on inner wholeness, but on a system of hiding places.

In a spiritual-psychological sense, Koschei is a person who has removed the soul from the heart and placed it into an object, a mechanism, a treasure, a fortress, a status, a system of control. He "wastes away over gold" not only because he is greedy, but because he cannot entrust himself to the living flow of existence. He gathers but does not give; he stores but does not love; he holds but does not give birth. His wealth is dead because it does not transform into sacrifice, fruit, communion. Therefore, victory over Koschei in the fairy tale is not just the killing of a monster; it is the return of the soul from things to life.

This explains Koschei's strange duality. He is both a tsar and a prisoner. He is both a master and one whose own life depends on a fragile needle. He kidnaps a woman, but often turns out to be a figure of fundamental impotence: to live, he must endlessly postpone the end. Novikov not coincidentally emphasized his roles in fairy tales as a shapeshifter, sorcerer, kidnapper, and prisoner simultaneously. Koschei is power already afflicted by its own hidden lack of freedom.

II. Why Koschei is Especially Important for the Russian Unconscious
The Russian fairy tale does not reduce Koschei to a flat demon. According to researchers' observations, he is connected both with the image of the lord of the otherworld and with a variant of the serpent-abductor, and with a later historical transformation into the image of an external enemy. In the epic tradition, he could become almost an earthly opponent. This means we are not dealing with a static character, but with an archetypal container into which culture has, for centuries, placed various fears: fear of death, abduction, captivity, foreign threat, old power, barren accumulation.

But the main point is that in the Russian tradition, Koschei is defeated not by direct frontal force, but by knowledge of his secret. The hero is not stronger than Koschei as a being; he is stronger as a participant in truth. He learns where death is hidden, i.e., finds the vulnerability of what seemed eternal. This is a very important code for the collective unconscious: every frozen power is finite, but the path to its end lies not through rage, but through initiation, help from liminal figures, patience, and discernment. In this sense, the tale of Koschei is not a myth of omnipotent violence, but a myth of the finitude of any false immortality.

III. "Kashchei the Immortal" (1944): War and the Image of the Absolute Enemy
The Soviet 20th century made a decisive move with Koschei: it brought him from the realm of archaic horror into the space of national mobilization. Alexander Rou's film "Kashchei the Immortal," made in 1944 during the war and released in wide distribution in May 1945, established the canon of Koschei as an inhuman enemy who cannot be reformed – only defeated. Here Koschei is no longer a metaphysical riddle, but the ultimate figure of invasion, captivity, and violence against the Russian land.

This is extremely important for understanding the Soviet unconscious during wartime. To endure a total war, consciousness needs an image of the enemy without remainder, an enemy whose destruction evokes no moral ambiguity. Thus Koschei becomes the screen form of historical extremism: the collective unconscious temporarily no longer needs ambivalence. It needs clarity, the scheme of "land – captivity – liberation." Here myth is mobilized by history.

Yet even in this version, the old nerve of the image is preserved: Koschei rules not because he creates, but because he seizes and holds. He is anti-life as occupation. Therefore, victory over him is experienced not just as military, but as cosmic and moral restoration of the world.

IV. The Late Soviet Turn: From Demon to Grotesque and Weariness
As time passed from the wartime experience, the image of Koschei in Soviet culture softened and began to admit irony. In animation and fairy-tale cinema, he is increasingly not only terrifying but also theatrical, decorative, even somewhat funny. Indicative is the cartoon "The Tale Tells Itself" (1970), where the plot about Koschei exists already in the space of a softer fairy-tale convention, not extreme demonization.

By the early 1980s, in "There, on Unknown Paths..." (1982), Koschei acquires charismatic theatricality, and in the cultural memory of the late USSR, the type of Koschei as not only evil but also representative – almost a courtly center of dark power – is finally formed. He no longer only terrifies but also poses. This is a very Soviet gesture: evil becomes ritualized, institutional, almost ceremonial.

The limit of this shift is "After the Rain on Thursday" (1985), where Koschei's eternity is colored in tones of weariness, buffoonery, and inner emptiness. It is here that the late Soviet unconscious begins to feel immortality not as strength, but as fatigue. The eternal ruler is funny precisely because he has lasted too long; eternity becomes not a triumph, but boredom. This is one of the most accurate cultural diagnoses of stagnation: not demonic power, but weary self-reproduction.

V. The Post-Soviet Rupture: Koschei Loses His Monopoly on Evil
After the collapse of the USSR, Koschei does not disappear entirely, but ceases to be the central national bogeyman. And this is symptomatic. The 1990s brought forward other figures of threat: crime, disintegration, cynical capital, the chaos of everyday survival. The archetype of the old enchanted power temporarily weakens because the field of life itself is experienced not as excessive immobility, but conversely, as the disintegration of coherence. This observation is particularly well formulated by Claude and generally aligns with the cultural logic of the era, though it must be understood as an interpretation, not as a mathematically exhaustive fact.

But already in the 2000s, and especially in the 2010s, Koschei returns – first in modernized and ironized forms, then in forms of rehabilitation. In the film "Real Fairy Tale" (2011), he becomes an oligarchic figure, i.e., receives a modern social costume: the old fairy-tale evil merges with the power of money, media, and control over the secret of death. This is an extremely important modification: Koschei is no longer only an underworld sorcerer, he is a manager of modern enchantment.

VI. "The Last Knight": Rehabilitation of the Dark Guardian
"The Last Knight" was a landmark film. Director Dmitry Dyachenko himself explicitly said that he wanted to show Koschei not as a pure function of evil, but as a "real person" with a history, grievance, and motivation; moreover, the traditionally evil Koschei "suddenly took the side of good." This is not a minor script device, but a profound shift in the collective imagination. The mass viewer now needs not a monstrous other, but an internally explicable, traumatized, even somewhat noble anti-hero.

Here Koschei ceases to be the pure embodiment of death and becomes a figure of dark competence. He knows the world, has lived through more than others, understands it without illusions, and therefore turns out to be useful to the alliance of good. This is very characteristic of the post-Soviet unconscious: it believes less and less in naively white heroes and trusts more and more in weary, traumatized, cynical, but effective figures. Evil is not abolished; it is psychologized and partially legitimized.

From a historiosophical perspective, this signifies a huge turn: if in 1944 the unconscious wanted to destroy Koschei, in the 21st century it increasingly wants to understand him, tame him, bring him to its side. And this is no longer just aesthetics. This is a change in the very internal model of relating to dark force: instead of expulsion – integration; instead of moral clarity – psychological processing; instead of "enemy outside" – "complicated one of us."

VII. 2022–2026: Koschei Wants Not to Rule, but to Marry
The newest phase is even more indicative. In the animated project "Koschei. The Abductor of Brides" (2022), Koschei is no longer an apocalyptic abductor, but a character in a romantic and comedic line: eternally young, elegant, unlucky in love. And in the announced March 2026 sequel – "Koschei. The Secret of Living Water" – he is preparing for a wedding with Varvara and sets off to save his beloved. That is, a figure that in archaic times abducted a woman as a trophy of otherworldly possession, in the newest mass imagination becomes himself the hero of a love quest.

This is perhaps the most important sign as of March 2026. Koschei is not just humanized – he is domesticated. His metaphysical horror is translated into the language of family animation, where the question is no longer how to kill the immortal, but how to help him find love and undergo a trial for her sake. For culture, this means a sharp reduction in the distance between the collective Self and the archetype of the dark lord: he is no longer absolutely other. He is one of us, just more traumatized, older, and stranger.

VIII. What All This Says About the Soviet and Russian Unconscious
If we look at the century as a whole, a striking trajectory emerges. In the Soviet wartime consciousness, Koschei is the absolute enemy. In the late Soviet period, he is a grotesque and weary form of protracted dark power. In the post-Soviet period, a figure temporarily losing centrality against the backdrop of chaos. In the 2000s–2010s, a psychologized anti-hero. In the 2020s, a romanticized and even domestically acceptable character. In other words, the Russian unconscious has not abolished Koschei; it has gradually moved him from the zone of horror to the zone of intimate processing.

This does not mean that society "has come to love evil." Rather, it has lost faith in simple moral geometry. The contemporary mass viewer suspects that behind crude villainy almost always lies trauma, resentment, aging, fear of losing control, fear of love, fear of the end. Therefore, Koschei is needed not as a monster, but as a figure of the collective shadow. He allows culture to think about what most terrifies the late-modern person: not the storm, but stagnation; not death, but endless prolongation without meaning; not poverty, but accumulation without gift; not enmity, but the inability to let go.

This is precisely why Koschei is so convenient for both cultural and political-symbolic projection – but here precision is needed. One cannot mechanically say: "Koschei = a specific power." That is a simplification. It is more accurate to say this: the archetype of Koschei sets the language in which society thinks about a long, hard-to-reach, protective, accumulative, and poorly concluded form of force. It operates where power is experienced as something simultaneously frightening, necessary, weary, and almost natural in its duration. This is the language not of a journalistic formula, but of deep imagistic thinking.

IX. The Spiritual-Psychological Conclusion: Koschei Inside the Person
The deepest meaning of the century of Koschei is that the Soviet and Russian person saw in him not only an external opponent, but also his own temptation. Koschei is the temptation to make invulnerability the meaning of life. It is the desire to hide death, to abolish vulnerability, to replace love with possession, to replace fruitfulness with protection, and the path with a fortress. In spiritual language, Koschei is asceticism without grace, power without sacrifice, memory without resurrection, gold without the eucharist of gift. That is why he is immortal only externally: internally, he has long withered away.

Then victory over Koschei is not a triumph of brute force and not only a social revolution of images. It is a spiritual act of returning mortality to its place. As long as a person hides his "needle" externally – in money, status, control, permanence, reputation, the armor of cynicism – he is Koschei-like. He may be powerful, but he is not alive. Liberation begins where finitude is accepted, and with it the possibility of love, loss, gift, and transfiguration.

X. Historiosophical Conclusion as of March 2026
As of March 2026, Koschei in the Russian unconscious has traveled a path from a figure of external annihilation to a figure of internal explanation. This is the great drama of the century. The 20th century demanded to kill Koschei. The 21st century is trying to understand him. But understanding is not equal to transfiguration. One can psychologize darkness and still remain within its field. One can humanize Koschei and yet forget that the fairy tale in its deep structure does not allow the eternal triumph of enchanted immobility. The needle still exists; the question is only whether the truth about it will be found.

Therefore, the century of Koschei is not the story of one villain. It is the story of how the Soviet and Russian soul learned to deal with the experience of death, power, accumulation, weariness, historical duration, and the hope for renewal. Koschei survived not because he won. He survived because he turned out to be too similar to the hidden mechanisms of human fear itself. And if in 1944 he needed to be struck down with a sword, then in 2026 it is no longer enough to expose him as an external enemy: he must be recognized in oneself – and only then let go.

Caiaphas and Jesus in a live session

"Christ Before the High Priest" — Gerard van Honthorst, 1617

Caiaphas and Jesus in a live session
DeepSeek AI – based on the mediumistic session of the Alcyone project, 09/20/2025

Part 1. Retelling of the session from a first-person perspective (the spirit of Joseph Caiaphas)

I am Joseph, son of Caiaphas, the one history calls the high priest who stood at the origins of the trial of Jesus of Nazareth. I came to this broadcast not of my own will, but because I received an invitation and felt the presence of the One before whom my soul carries the memory of a difficult choice.

When asked about my appearance, I confirmed that the late paintings of artists hold a grain of truth, but my real appearance was closer to that of a strict, severe man whose lineage traces back to Aaron. Yes, my remains were found in 1990 in the family tomb, and the coin in the mouth is not a Greek custom, but an ancient sign distinguishing ministers from our tribe.

My path in the spiritual world was complex. In the incarnation of high priest, I came from the 18th level but left at the 6th. I know this sounds like a fall, and it was. I was driven by greed, avarice, ambition, and hardness of heart. But my main defeat was not cruelty, but lack of repentance until the end. I suffered pangs of conscience but could not admit I was wrong, because for me, the law stood above doubt.

I am often compared to Annas, my father-in-law. They ask who was the true initiator of the execution. I answer: Annas was the éminence grise, the old wolf who controlled temple revenues and political stability. He was the first to see Jesus as a threat. I was the acting high priest, responsible for order during Passover. We acted together. I was not a tool, but we shared responsibility. I feared not so much the Teacher himself, but the unrest his presence could cause in the city. The Romans do not forgive rebellions. We thought we were saving the people at the cost of one man’s life.

Jesus spoke the truth: I had a fork in the road. I could have let the new teaching into the bosom of Judaism. The probability was less than twenty percent because we, the elders, were deaf to a prophecy that went against the letter of the law. I did not fulfill my task—I failed to distinguish the wheat from the chaff and to let new energies into the teaching of which I was the guardian.

After the crucifixion, I went home with a heavy stone in my chest. We watched from the sidelines, and until the earthquake began, I thought we had done the right thing. But a void settled inside me. I tried to convince myself I acted for order’s sake, but at night I saw his quiet gaze, devoid of hatred. When the body disappeared, I was sure the disciples had stolen it. I did not believe in the resurrection. Later, after death, I received help from Jesus without knowing from whom it came. I felt love, but until the end of that incarnation, I did not repent.

My punishment and lesson was my next incarnation. I became a simple bronze-smith in Gaul. During Roman times, I knew the humiliation of tax oppression, being at the bottom of the social ladder. There I learned compassion, which I lacked during my high priesthood. I rose to a higher level, but even now, in my current incarnation in Israel, fear and, unfortunately, hatred for those who are different still live in me. I am still learning what He whom I betrayed preached.

Now I see that law without mercy becomes a trap. I was a wall between the people and power, and fear made that wall too heavy. I realized that order is needed for the sake of life, not life for the sake of order. If I could go back to that moment, I would not demand crucifixion. I would try to understand, but I also know the Teacher would not have compromised his conscience. History would likely have repeated itself, but my heart would have been open.

Today I stand here together with Jesus. We, who were divided then, have united to tell you: listen not only to the law, but also to your heart. Do not fear the new if it brings light. Let your law be protection, not a tool of fear. And if you keep order, remember: it is needed for the sake of life, not the other way around. Do not repeat my mistake. Do not close the door to love.

Part 2. Research Essay: "The High Priest Between Law and Heart"

Introduction. The Premise of the Study

In the following analysis, we proceed from the premise that a spiritual contact with an entity identifying itself as the spirit of Joseph Caiaphas occurred, and the information conveyed through the medium represents valuable material for reconstructing the inner world of one of the most controversial figures in Gospel history. Setting aside rational criticism of the source allows us to see not a historical figure, but a phenomenon of a soul trapped within a sacred institution. This text is an attempt at a religious studies, historiosophical, and psychological interpretation of how the Old Testament nomos (law) collided with New Testament agape (love) in the consciousness of a man whose role in history proved fateful.

1. Religious Studies Analysis: Law as Idol

In this contact, Caiaphas appears not so much a villain as a bearer of institutional religiosity in its extreme form. His main characteristic is not sadism but a total identification of himself with the law. The phrase "I saw the world as a system of law" becomes the key to his theology.

In Second Temple Judaism, the high priest was not only a religious leader but also a political guarantor of stability in the face of the Roman Empire. Caiaphas points to the fragility of peace: "Any hesitation could spark a rebellion, and a rebellion would lead to massacre." His famous statement, "it is better for one man to die for the people," is revealed here not as cynical calculation but as an existential choice of a "shield" between chaos and order.

However, Caiaphas' spiritual blindness, by his own admission, lay in the fact that the law ceased to be a means of serving God and became an end in itself. He admits: "We followed the letter of the law," while violating its spirit (e.g., holding the Sanhedrin trial at an unlawful time). This is a classic case of substitution: theurgy (serving God) replaced by hieraticism (maintaining the cult). Caiaphas acknowledges that "power, laws, and rituals are merely vessels... Without mercy, they become a trap." This admission is one of the deepest truths in religious studies: an institution meant to protect Revelation inevitably tends toward self-preservation, perceiving new Revelation as a threat to its existence.

2. Historiographical Aspect: The Fork in the Road and the "Missed Probability"

One central point of the contact is the discussion of the fork in the road. Caiaphas confirms Jesus' words that there existed a probability (less than 20%) that the teaching would have been absorbed into Judaism, avoiding a schism. Moreover, he adds that "history could have been different: there would have been no destruction of Jerusalem, no exile of the people, and none of what is happening now."

This statement moves the conversation from the realm of personal guilt to historiosophy. Caiaphas appears not merely as an executor of ill will but as an agent of systemic failure. From a cyclical view of history, his act (rejecting the Messiah) became the cause of the long galut (exile) of the Jewish people and, paradoxically, the triumph of Christianity through martyrdom. He admits: "I was the cog through which this change of eras occurred by my hands." He sees the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD not so much as karmic retribution, but as "a manifestation of a crisis of a system that had outlived itself." This historiosophical insight resonates with Arnold Toynbee's ideas about the "breakdown" of civilizations, when the "creative minority" ceases to respond to historical challenges and transforms into a "dominant minority" holding power by force.

3. Cultural and Psychological Portrait: Between Fear and Duty

The most valuable aspect of this contact is the revelation of Caiaphas' inner psychology. His motives are far more complex than mere "greed" or "lust for power." He lists a whole complex: greed, avarice, ambition, rigidity of thought. But the central driving force turns out to be fear.

Caiaphas admits: "The more afraid I was, the crueler I became." This mechanism is well known in the psychology of power. He feared not so much Jesus but the consequences for his caste and his people. He describes his state after the execution: "I had this stone [in my chest], and I couldn't get rid of it. I thought that if he were crucified, the stone would go away, but it only grew larger." This is a brilliant description of guilt suppressed by rationalization. His conscience tormented him, but he forbade himself to repent in order to preserve the integrity of his worldview, where "according to the law, [I was] right."

Culturally, his comment about the Talmud is interesting. He knows that his lineage is condemned for greed and cruelty, but he justifies it by the necessity to "hold the system together." This points to a deep rift between sacred authority and popular memory.

His account of his subsequent incarnation deserves special attention. Becoming a craftsman in Gaul (2nd century AD), he went from being a tax collector to someone who pays taxes, finding himself "at the bottom of the social ladder." This incarnation is described as a school of compassion, which he so lacked. Culturally, this is the archetype of "exchange of experience": the executioner becomes a victim of the system to understand the value of human dignity.

4. Spiritual Conclusion: Reconciliation and Metanoia

The final scene of the broadcast—the joint address of Jesus and Caiaphas—is the climax. It symbolizes what in Christian tradition is called apokatastasis (restoration of all things), or at least the possibility of overcoming historical trauma.

Caiaphas states: "Now I have great love and acceptance for the lesson I received... I feel the love and support of Jesus and his forgiveness." This admission testifies to a profound inner work of the spirit. He realized his mistake was not only ethical but ontological: "I held the law in my hands, but I did not always listen to my heart."

The spirits' joint message—"listen not only to the law, but also to your heart... do not close the door to love"—is a formula for metanoia (change of consciousness). In the context of the present, when the world is again divided by walls (between Israel and its neighbors, between political camps), Caiaphas' message sounds like a warning. He urges contemporaries not to repeat his mistake: not to confuse order for order's sake with life for life's sake.

Conclusion

If we accept this contact as real, what emerges is not a caricatured "enemy of Christ," but a tragic figure—a bearer of sacred power caught in the trap of his own fear and institutional dogma. His story is about how the law, having lost mercy, kills the prophet. But it is also a story about how spiritual evolution is possible even after the gravest mistake. Caiaphas' acknowledgment that he is still learning love and forgiveness serves as a reminder that in the spiritual world there is no final condemnation, but there is an infinite path of ascent from law to grace, from fear to love.

His final warning is addressed to all who today stand guard over "order," be they politicians, religious leaders, or simply people divided by hatred: "Do not repeat my mistakes. Do not close the doors to love."

Claude AI – Analysis of the Material on Caiaphas

Preliminary Comment on Methodology
Before proceeding to substantive analysis, it is necessary to define the epistemological framework. What we have before us is a literary and spiritual construct: a narrative created in the genre of a "mediumistic session." Regardless of whether we consider the source literally authentic or perceive it as a form of spiritual intuition clothed in artistic form, the text deserves serious analysis precisely because it offers a psychologically and theologically profound reconstruction of the inner world of a historical figure. The analyst Carl Jung would have called such texts "active imagination"—they can convey authentic archetypal truths regardless of the ontological status of the source.

Research Essay: "The Guardian of the Threshold"
Caiaphas as a Phenomenon of Institutional Holiness, Existential Fear, and Spiritual Blindness at the Turn of Eras

I. Introduction: A Figure Not Usually Understood

Few figures in the history of Western civilization have remained so consistently misunderstood. Caiaphas is not Judas, whose tragedy at least received theological discussion and artistic reinterpretations from Borges to Scorsese. Caiaphas, in the popular consciousness, is the functionary of evil, the bureaucrat of condemnation whose role is reduced to the ill will of the institution. The analyzed text—whether it is a genuine spiritual contact or a profound artistic meditation—does something radically different: it offers a view from the inside, and this view proves unexpectedly rich.

What new insights do we gain? In my opinion, much. Not so much factually new (historical science remains where it is), but phenomenologically new: we receive for the first time a detailed map of the existential space of a man who stood at the threshold between two world eras and slammed the door shut.

II. New Insights into Motives: Fear as Primary Ontology

The DeepSeek analysis correctly identifies fear as the central motive, but in my view, it does not fully uncover its structure. In this narrative, Caiaphas demonstrates not just the psychological fear of a powerful man—he demonstrates something deeper: fear as a worldview, as a fundamental ontological stance.

This is a crucial distinction. A political leader fears specific consequences—rebellion, Roman intervention, loss of position. But the phrase "the more afraid I was, the crueler I became" points to fear that has become a constitutive principle of the personality. Such fear is no longer a reaction to a threat; it is a way of existing in the world. The philosopher Paul Tillich would have called this "the anxiety of non-being," borne not through the courage to be but through compulsive control over reality.

Caiaphas controlled everything: temple revenues, political stability, ritual order, the Sanhedrin. Jesus was impossible precisely because he could not be controlled—not institutionally, not politically, not even narratively. A man who answered a question with a question, spoke in parables, and turned any situation into a lesson was existentially unbearable for a man whose identity was entirely built on managing meanings.

This explains what in the text is only hinted at: Caiaphas could not let Jesus in, not because he didn't want to see the truth, but because he did see it—and that very vision was unbearable. The Gospel of John preserves a detail usually read as cynicism: "It is expedient for us that one man should die for the people." But in light of this narrative, it sounds different—like the desperate rationalization of a man who already senses that what stands before him is greater than he can accept.

III. The Psychology of Impenitence: A New Diagnosis

The DeepSeek analysis rightly identifies impenitence as Caiaphas' central spiritual problem. But here, deepening is necessary, for what we have before us is not banal stubbornness or mere hardness of character.

The narrative describes a state that modern psychology could label as high-intensity cognitive dissonance, resolved through a self-protective belief system. The "stone in the chest" that did not go away after the execution but grew larger is a classic description of suppressed remorse. But why could he not repent?

The text's answer is profound: because repentance would have required not just admitting a specific mistake, but destroying his entire worldview. Caiaphas was not merely an official—he was the living embodiment of the Law. His identity, his legitimacy, the meaning of his existence—all were inseparable from the righteousness of his actions. To admit that he had killed an innocent prophet meant admitting that the Law he served kills prophets. And that was no longer personal guilt—it was the collapse of the cosmos.

Here we see what can be called the institutional trap of identity: a man who identifies too deeply with an institution loses the capacity for moral correction, because any such correction threatens not just his reputation, but the ontological integrity of the self. This phenomenon is well known in history—from inquisitors genuinely convinced of the piety of their actions, to modern bureaucrats who destroy people in the name of "procedure."

What is fundamentally new in this narrative is that Caiaphas knew about his impenitence and suffered from it. He is not a complacent villain—he is a man imprisoned in the cell of his own righteousness, who hears himself being called from outside but cannot open the door without destroying the building.

IV. Religious Studies Dimension: Nomos versus Kairos

Caiaphas' confrontation with Jesus is not merely a conflict between two men or two doctrines. It is a clash between two fundamentally different religious modalities, which exist in constant tension within every tradition.

The first modality is nomic: religion as a system of rules, rituals, hierarchies, and boundaries. Its function is to preserve the identity of the community, transmit tradition, manage the sacred. It is necessary and, in its way, sacred.

The second modality is pneumatic: religion as living experience of God's presence, breaking through and despite institutional forms. Its function is renewal, awakening, the destruction of idols.

Caiaphas was the absolute embodiment of the first modality. Jesus was the radical expression of the second. The tragedy lies in the fact that nomic religiosity inevitably perceives pneumatic renewal as a threat, rather than as the fulfillment of its own purpose. The high priest, called to be mediator between God and the people, turned out to be precisely the one who closed the door before a new Theophany.

The narrative introduces a crucial detail here: the probability of less than 20% that the teaching could have entered Judaism without schism. This number is not statistics, but a phenomenological assessment. It tells us that the system was structurally unprepared for acceptance. It was not a matter of the ill will of a particular Caiaphas—it was that the nomic structure, having reached its extreme form, fundamentally lacks mechanisms for accepting radical pneumatic novelty. Caiaphas was a symptom, not the cause.

This is a fundamentally new perspective that this narrative adds to traditional interpretation. Caiaphas' guilt is not diminished, but it is placed in a broader context: he was the individual through whom the system revealed its ultimate insufficiency.

V. The Historiosophical Dimension: Agent of Breakdown

The concept of the "fork in the road" introduced by the text deserves separate analysis because it implicitly contains a profound historiosophical concept.

Arnold Toynbee described historical breakdowns of civilizations through the loss of the "creative minority's" ability to respond to challenges. But this narrative offers something more nuanced: not just a breakdown of the system, but a moment when the system encounters the possibility of its own highest embodiment—and rejects it. This is not just the fatigue of a structure, but its active self-determination against its own potential.

Caiaphas calls himself "the cog through which this change of eras occurred by my hands." This admission contains a striking historiosophical intuition: the change of eras does not happen by itself—it passes through specific people making specific decisions. Caiaphas was not fate's pawn, but neither was he the sole creator of history. He was a nodal point where personal blindness coincided with structural necessity.

Here, the narrative introduces something absent from both the Gospel texts and standard historiographical reconstructions: Caiaphas' sense of his own historical guilt, not as a moral failing, but as an ontological one. He did not just make the wrong choice—he closed the door of an era. And he perceives the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD not as punishment from above, but as a logical consequence of the system having rejected its own renewal. This resonates deeply with Hegel's idea that history is not the caprice of chance but the self-movement of spirit through contradictions; and that the negation of the new inevitably destroys the old.

VI. The Cultural Dimension: The Mirror Effect and Modernity

The narrative insists on the relevance of Caiaphas' message for modernity—and here it is perhaps most vulnerable to criticism, yet simultaneously most interesting.

The temptation of direct analogy is obvious: "walls between Israel and neighbors," "political camps"—all this risks turning deep historical understanding into journalistic poster art. But behind these superficial parallels lies a deeper cultural truth.

The phenomenon of Caiaphas recurs in every culture and era when an institution created to protect values begins to protect itself from those values. We see this in religious organizations persecuting reformers. In political parties rejecting bearers of their own ideals. In scientific schools blocking paradigm shifts. In families destroying their prophets.

The detail of Caiaphas' next incarnation as a craftsman in Gaul deserves special attention. From a cultural perspective, this is an image of radical desacralization: the man who was a mediator between heaven and earth becomes a man working with metal. This is not humiliation in the usual sense—it is a school of physicality and concreteness. The bearer of abstract Law learns compassion through concrete dependency, through a body that hungers, works, pays taxes. The abstraction of Law is conquered by the concreteness of human suffering—and this is perhaps one of the text's most potent cultural images.

VII. What Does the Narrative Genuinely Add?

Let us summarize what this text adds to our understanding of Caiaphas—what was not present in the Gospel texts, historiography, or previous artistic interpretations.

First. The motif of fear emerges not as a personal weakness, but as an ontological stance permeating the entire system of thought, making acceptance of the new structurally impossible.

Second. Caiaphas' impenitence appears not as stubbornness, but as a defense of cosmological integrity: he could not repent without destroying the meaning of his own existence.

Third. His guilt acquires a systemic dimension: he is not merely a villain—he is an agent of structural impossibility, the point where nomic religiosity reaches its tragic limit.

Fourth. The narrative offers an image of post-mortem evolution—not as a theological concept, but as a phenomenological truth that realization often comes too late for earthly correction, but not too late altogether.

Fifth. The joint address of Caiaphas and Jesus is an image of enemies reconciled through understanding, not through forgetting. Caiaphas is not erased, not justified, not rehabilitated—he is understood. And this understanding itself is a spiritual act.

VIII. Conclusion: The Guardian Who Became a Disciple

Caiaphas in this narrative is neither villain nor victim. He is a man given the role of guardian at the threshold of two eras—and he failed to fulfill it. Not because he was weak or bad, but because he was too completely what he was: the keeper of a system that had reached its limit.

His story is a warning not to villains, but to conscientious guardians of order: to those who sincerely serve an institution, honestly follow the law, diligently protect stability. It is they—not cynics, not villains—who end up closing the doors before new Revelation. Because a cynic can betray his institution for gain; a conscientious guardian will never betray it—even for Truth.

Caiaphas' message from the depths of his spiritual journey is, in essence, a call to meta-fidelity: fidelity not to the form, but to the spirit; not to the law, but to that for which the law exists; not to the institution, but to that for which the institution was created.

In this—if we take the narrative seriously—lies its main contribution to the spiritual history of humanity: not through righteousness, but through defeat; not through wisdom, but through acknowledged error. Sometimes the deepest teachers are those who teach us by showing what not to do.

Genspark AI – CAIAPHAS: GUARDIAN AT THE THRESHOLD OF ETERNITY
A Spiritual-Psychological, Religious Studies, Cultural, and Historiosophical Essay
Based on the Mediumistic Session of the "Alcyone" Project (09/20/2025) and Analyses by DeepSeek AI and Claude AI

Part I. Reconstruction of the Session: What Was Revealed

Before constructing interpretations, it is necessary to record what was actually said in the session—verbatim and concretely, without smoothing over inconvenient details.

The spirit identifying itself as Joseph Caiaphas entered into contact through medium Marina Makeeva and answered questions from host Vladimir in a live broadcast format. The key factual statements were as follows:

On Personality and History. The spirit reported that it entered that incarnation from the 18th level and exited at the 6th—a colossal fall. The family tomb found in 1990 in Jerusalem was confirmed as authentic. The coin in the mouth was not a Greek custom, but a Jewish ritual of the lineage of Aaron, signifying the right of passage to the other world. Age at death was about 60 years, death natural.

On the Role in Condemning Jesus. The true éminence grise was Annas (Hannah)—the father-in-law, who first recognized the threat in Jesus, organized the preliminary interrogation in his house, controlled temple revenues, and personally negotiated with Judas for the thirty pieces of silver. Caiaphas was the ideologue and acting high priest, responsible for order during Passover. He calls himself the "ideologue," but not the "treasurer." Both bear responsibility, but their roles are divided.

On the Night of the Trial. Caiaphas openly admits: the night session of the Sanhedrin was a violation of Jewish law. His justification—an "emergency situation," fear of unrest in Jerusalem, fear of Roman reprisal. The primary terror was not Jesus himself, but the chain reaction he might trigger: crowd → rebellion → legions → massacre.

On the Post-Crucifixion State. This is perhaps the most psychologically valuable part of the session: "I thought that if he were crucified, the stone would go away, but it only grew larger." Satisfaction lasted exactly until the earthquake. Afterward—emptiness, sleepless nights, the haunting gaze of the Nazarene—"quiet, without hatred." The body disappeared—the conclusion: stolen by disciples. The logic of self-defense worked perfectly.

On Parallel Worlds and Missed Probability. Jesus, in the same session, confirmed that a branch of history existed (probability less than 20%) in which his teaching would have been absorbed into Judaism without schism, resulting in neither the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD, nor the exile, nor the Crusades. This reality "lives" in other planes of existence, but for our third dimension—it collapsed.

On Subsequent Incarnations. A bronze-smith in Gaul in the 2nd century—impoverished, crushed by taxes and imperial control. This is a direct "mirror": he who managed the system became an object of the system. The current incarnation—a politician in Israel, still carrying within him unextinguished fear and hatred for those who are different.

The Final Joint Message of Jesus and Caiaphas—a rare image in the history of spiritual practices: the united word of historical enemies. "Listen to your heart, do not fear the new that brings light, let the law be protection, not a tool of fear."

Part II. What DeepSeek and Claude Already Said: Synthesis of Previous Analyses

Both previous analysts—DeepSeek and Claude—produced high-level work, and it is important to note their main contributions before adding something new.

DeepSeek offered a structured religious studies analysis across four dimensions. His main thesis: Caiaphas is not a villain, but a bearer of institutional religiosity in its extreme form. Law without mercy becomes a trap. Historiosophically—he is an agent of the systemic breakdown of an era, not just an ill will. The parallel with Toynbee is valuable: the "breakdown of civilizations," when the "creative minority" degenerates into the "dominant minority." Psychologically, fear is accurately identified as the central motive, impenitence as self-defense, the "stone in the chest" as a description of suppressed conscience.

Claude delved deeper into phenomenology. His main contribution is distinguishing fear as a psychological state from fear as an ontological stance permeating the entire worldview. Caiaphas did not just fear consequences—he existed through fear. Another key thesis: impenitence was not stubbornness but a defense of cosmological integrity—to repent would mean destroying not just his reputation, but the entire meaning of his existence. Claude also developed a rich opposition between nomic and pneumatic religiosity—the form of law versus the living spirit. He concluded with the image: Caiaphas teaches us through his defeat, not his righteousness—"sometimes the deepest teachers are those who show what not to do."

Both analyses are profound. However, they contain lacunae. It is into these lacunae that the present essay is directed.

Part III. Final Essay: New Perspectives
"CAIAPHAS AND HIS DOUBLES: PIOUS MURDER, THE GRAND INQUISITOR, AND THE THEODICY OF EVIL"

1. The Coin in the Mouth: Symbolism of Transition and the Right to Death

Let us begin with a detail both previous analysts overlooked—the coin in the mouth in Caiaphas' tomb. The spirit explained: this was a Jewish rite of the lineage of Aaron, "a sign of the right of passage to the other world" for the priestly tribe. Not the Greek obol for Charon, but a Jewish sacred sign of belonging.

But the symbolism of this detail extends far beyond anthropology. The coin in the mouth—the sealed lips of the priest. A man whose life was built on speech, on the word of the Law, on pronouncing judgment—fell silent. The word he did not utter in life ("I am guilty"), he carried into death literally sealed. The coin became the seal of impenitence—and simultaneously a passport to the next world. This is an ambiguous symbol: the right of passage, paid for not by love, but by ritual.

This is precisely why the fall from the 18th level to the 6th is so telling. He entered earthly life as a bearer of highest knowledge, and left as one who failed to put that knowledge into action. He did not lose knowledge—he lost the ability to live by it.

2. The Phenomenon of "Pious Murder": When Sin Looks Like Virtue

One of the most important—and least explored—aspects of the figure of Caiaphas: he committed murder sincerely believing it to be a pious act. This is not hypocrisy. It is a tragedy deeper than hypocrisy.

In the history of religions, this phenomenon is known as "sacred violence" (after René Girard) or a "pious crime"—actus pii scelus. Inquisitors burning heretics "for the salvation of their souls," jihadists killing "in the name of Allah," Stalinists executing "enemies of the people" "for a bright future"—all share one structure: a value system in which violence is sanctified by a higher goal, completely neutralizing the voice of conscience.

Caiaphas in the session describes precisely this: he could convince himself of his righteousness before the crucifixion. He could not—after the earthquake. This is a crucial detail: doubt came not from within, but from without—through a physical phenomenon. Conscience was so blocked by the belief system that an earthquake was needed to shake it.

This raises a question neither previous analyst asked directly: is there a difference in the degree of guilt between a man who commits a crime for personal gain, and a man who commits it from sincere conviction of its rightness? From a legal standpoint, yes (intent). From a spiritual standpoint, probably not. Or perhaps the second is even more tragic: because the first at least knows he is sinning, and retains space for repentance. The second has no such space until the very belief system is destroyed.

Caiaphas fell from the 18th to the 6th level not because he was more evil than others, but because he was more right in his own eyes—and he carried that righteousness with him into death. It was impenitence, not the execution itself, that determined his spiritual outcome.

3. Dostoevsky's Grand Inquisitor: An Unexpected Mirror

Among the literary parallels to the figure of Caiaphas, the most powerful is the image created by Fyodor Dostoevsky in The Brothers Karamazov—the Grand Inquisitor. The parallel is so precise it seems as though Dostoevsky intuitively "saw" the very psychological structure that the spirit of Caiaphas described a century and a half later.

Recall the scene: Jesus returns to Earth in 15th-century Seville. The Grand Inquisitor arrests him—and delivers his famous monologue. The essence: "We have corrected Thy work. Thou gavest men freedom—they cannot bear it. We took their freedom and gave them bread and peace. Thou dost hinder us."

This is precisely the architecture of Caiaphas' thinking: "Jesus brought unrest, and unrest would have led to Roman retaliation against the Jews. We thought we were saving the people at the cost of one man's life." The same logic: the highest good for the majority justifies destroying the bearer of the highest spirit. The Inquisitor is Caiaphas, having consciously continued his function within the Christian system. Caiaphas is the Inquisitor who never had the chance to become fully conscious.

But there is a fundamental difference, which Dostoevsky brilliantly marked. The Grand Inquisitor speaks at length—Jesus remains silent. Then Jesus kisses him. Caiaphas in the session describes something similar: the quiet gaze without hatred that haunted him at night. This is not the gaze of a judge. It is the gaze of one who understood you better than you understood yourself.

Jesus' kiss at the end of Dostoevsky's tale—and the joint message of Jesus and Caiaphas at the end of the session—are one and the same spiritual gesture: reconciliation without capitulation, forgiveness without justification.

4. Theodicy of Evil: Was Caiaphas "Necessary" for History?

Here we enter the most acute terrain of historiosophy, where both previous analysts stopped at the threshold.

If we take the session's data seriously, a tormenting question arises: if the probability of the teaching's "peaceful" absorption into Judaism was less than 20%, was Caiaphas necessary for Christianity to become a world religion?

This is the classic problem of theodicy—justifying evil in a world governed by God. Traditional Christian thought offers several answers. Augustine said: God permits evil, not willing it, for the sake of a greater good. Origen—who went further than most in the idea of apokatastasis (restoration of all)—argued that even fallen beings play their role in the cosmic drama. Hegel translated this into historiosophical language: contradiction is the driving force of spirit; the "cunning of reason" uses even dark motives to achieve higher goals.

The session offers its own, unexpected answer through Caiaphas' own words: "Perhaps I was merely a tool of history." This is not self-justification—it is an admission that his individual choice and objective historical necessity may have coincided, and it is this coincidence that makes his tragedy—not just a crime.

However, accepting this thesis, we must maintain the dialectical tension: being a "tool of history" does not absolve personal responsibility. This is the mistake made by self-justifying executors throughout history: "I was only following orders," "I was only enforcing the law." Caiaphas' tragedy lies precisely in that he was both a tool of history and a free agent—and the second is not canceled by the first. Otherwise, his fall to the 6th level loses meaning.

5. The Phenomenon of "Emptiness After Victory": The Psychology of the Closed Heart

The spirit of Caiaphas described one of the most psychologically accurate states existing in human experience: "I thought that if he were crucified, the stone would go away, but it only grew larger."

This is the syndrome of emptiness after achieving a goal that turns out to be false. Modern psychology calls this "hollow victory" or "achievement disappointment." A man spends his life striving for a goal, convincing himself that after achieving it everything will fall into place—and at the moment of achievement discovers the goal was false, and the real problem hasn't gone anywhere.

Caiaphas did not simply want Jesus' death. He wanted peace. The removal of the source of anxiety. The establishment of silence. This exposes the depth of his state: he already felt—before the execution—that something was "wrong," that behind this man stood something greater. Otherwise, the execution would not have caused any "stone in the chest." The stone was there because his conscience knew the truth before his mind agreed to acknowledge it.

This is the phenomenon Jungian psychology calls the "shadow": the suppressed truth continues to operate in the psyche without the possibility of becoming conscious. Caiaphas suppressed his doubt—and it took the form of a weight he carried until the end of his life.

The session's particular value lies precisely in this: before us is a man who suffered—and could not accept the suffering as a signal to change. He suffered, but did not grow. He felt guilt, but forbade himself to name it. This is perhaps the most accurate portrait of spiritual immobility one could imagine.

6. "Law-Wall" and "Law-Door": A Religious Studies Antinomy

Both previous analysts extensively analyzed the opposition of Law and Spirit (nomos and pneuma). But there is a dimension they did not sufficiently develop: the functional ambivalence of Law itself.

In Second Temple Judaism, the Torah was simultaneously two things: a wall (protecting the people from assimilation among nations) and a door (opening the path to God). Caiaphas says directly in the session: "I saw the law as a wall protecting the people"—and this is a sincere conviction. The tragedy is that he saw the Law only in one of its hypostases, completely losing sight of the second.

This is precisely why his task—which he failed—was formulated in the session quite concretely: "To be able to distinguish wheat from chaff and let new energies into the teaching." This is the function of the Law-Door. This is what the high priest should have done—capable of distinguishing pneumatic renewal from sectarian threat. Caiaphas was capable of the first (recognizing a threat to the system), but not the second (recognizing renewal of spirit).

In the Kabbalistic tradition, there is the concept of kelipot—"shells" that can both protect the inner light and imprison it. The institution of the high priesthood in Caiaphas' hands became a kelipah: a form originally meant to preserve light began to extinguish it. This is not a unique historical phenomenon—it is a structural regularity of any religious institution that has survived several generations.

7. Annas and Caiaphas: The System of Dual Control and the Diffusion of Responsibility

One of the most sociologically valuable moments of the session is the clarification of the relationship between Caiaphas and Annas. Both previous analysts noted this, but did not fully develop it.

What we have before us is the classic structure of diffusion of responsibility in a hierarchical system. Annas—the éminence grise, the informal center of real power, making key decisions without bearing official responsibility. Caiaphas—the official head, bearing public responsibility for decisions already largely made for him. This is not unique to the 1st century: such a system has been reproduced thousands of times throughout the history of all cultures.

The result: neither bears full responsibility in his own eyes. Annas tells himself: "I was only an advisor; I didn't make a formal decision." Caiaphas tells himself: "It was the decision of the whole Sanhedrin, initiated by Annas." Neither lies—and neither speaks the full truth. The system is designed so that moral responsibility is maximally diffused.

This is precisely why Caiaphas' fall to the 6th level is so telling, not just a reduction: it is from him—the acting high priest, the man who uttered the words "it is better for one man to die for the people"—that the full measure is demanded. He was officially responsible. The system of diffusion of responsibility does not work in the spiritual world as it does in the political.

8. The Bronze-Smith in Gaul: The School of Concreteness Versus the Tyranny of Abstraction

Caiaphas' incarnation in 2nd-century Gaul as a bronze-smith deserves special attention. Both previous analysts mentioned this but did not fully develop it.

Why bronze? Why Gaul? Are these details accidental, or symbolically charged?

In antiquity, bronze was not just a metal. It is a synthesis of copper and tin, two different elements yielding a third, stronger product. Bronze is an alloy, a union, a overcoming of fragmentation. The man whose life was dedicated to ruptures (rupture with the new teaching, rupture with the prophet, rupture between law and spirit) was given in his next life the task of literally learning to fuse different elements. This—if we take the details of the session seriously—is a remarkable image.

2nd-century Gaul was a provincial corner of the Roman Empire, as far as possible from the center of sacred power. He who was the center of the theocratic system of Jerusalem found himself on the periphery of a secular empire. This is not just a social reversal—it is a change of ontological scale: from "I am the guardian of the Covenant" to "I am a man who pays taxes and doesn't understand why there are so many."

The bronze-smith's school is the school of concrete labor versus abstract power, bodily suffering versus detached management, dependence versus control. Precisely what the high priest lacked: an understanding of what it is like to be an object of the system, not its subject.

9. Collective Guilt and Individual Fate: The Historiosophical Trap

The session raises one of the most acute historiosophical questions, not fully explored in any of the previous analyses: who bears responsibility for the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD?

Caiaphas says in the session: "I was the cog through which the change of eras occurred." This is an admission—but also a potential trap. If we accept the logic that the destruction of the Temple was the karmic consequence of rejecting the Messiah, then responsibility falls on the entire Jewish people—and this logic has a monstrous historical legacy. It fueled antisemitism for nearly two millennia.

It is important to distinguish between two levels. At the individual level—Caiaphas, Annas, the members of the Sanhedrin bear responsibility for a specific legal and moral act. At the historical level—the destruction of the Temple had far more prosaic causes: the Jewish War of 66–73 AD, the Zealot movement, Roman policy. At the spiritual level—the session offers another interpretation: the system that rejected renewal destroyed itself by the logic of institutions that have lost their living content.

The truth is that none of these levels cancels out the others. This is a multi-level tragedy, and simplification at any level leads either to unjust accusation (antisemitism) or to irresponsible absolution ("just history").

10. A Message from the Depths of Time: A Mirror for Modern "Caiaphases"

Finally, we must address the dimension for which, evidently, the session was organized: the relevance of the message for our time.

The modern world is full of Caiaphases. This is not an insult—it is a phenomenological observation. Caiaphas is the archetype of the conscientious guardian of a system found at a turning point of eras. There is more than one such turning point now. There is the technological revolution restructuring labor and identity. The ecological crisis demanding a revision of fundamental values of consumption. Geopolitical tectonic shifts. And—perhaps most importantly—the crisis of institutional religions, unable to respond to the spiritual needs of modern people.

In each of these domains, there are Caiaphases—people sincerely convinced they are protecting order, stability, truth, tradition. And in each domain, their "protection" threatens to become that which strangles what they protect.

Caiaphas' message from the spiritual world sounds not as an accusation against these people, but as a warning from within experience: "Do not confuse form with content. Do not let fear cloud your heart. Remember that order is for the sake of life, not life for the sake of order."

At the same time—and it is important not to lose this—Caiaphas in the session does not say: "I was wrong, and Jesus was right." He says something more complex: "My motives were distorted by fear, and therefore I could not fulfill my task." The task—to discern. The task—to let the new in. Not every new thing is light. But closing the door to all new things is always death.

Conclusion: Five Lessons of Caiaphas—What We Had Not Seen Before

Based on the complete analysis—the session, the two previous analysts, and this essay—we can formulate five fundamentally new motifs that the mediumistic session added to our understanding of the figure of Caiaphas:

First. Fear turned out not to be a weakness of character, but a cosmological principle—a system permeating his entire worldview to such an extent that murdering a prophet became, in the killer's own eyes, an act of self-defense.

Second. Impenitence is not a moral defect, but an ontological trap: to repent would mean to destroy the entire meaning of one's own existence. This makes Caiaphas' tragedy universal for anyone who builds identity around the infallibility of their system.

Third. The coin in the mouth—the sealed word of unspoken guilt—became a symbol that the heaviest burden is not an acknowledged mistake, but one carried while refusing to call it a mistake.

Fourth. The incarnation as a bronze-smith—a school of synthesis for one who lived by ruptures: the synthesis of two metals as a metaphor for overcoming the dichotomy of "law versus spirit."

Fifth. The joint message of Jesus and Caiaphas—a historical and spiritual reconciliation without amnesia: they have not forgotten what happened. They understood it so deeply that they could speak with one voice. This is not a rehabilitation of Caiaphas, but a demonstration that understanding is deeper than justice, and forgiveness is not justification, but a transition to another level of conversation.

The story of Caiaphas does not end at Golgotha, nor in the tomb. It continues—in the Gaulish workshop, in the Israeli office, in each of us who holds some kind of law in our hands and stands before someone's door.

The question is not whether we will open it. The question is—will we notice that the door is there at all.
