Contactee Irina Podzorova, who describes herself as a medium entering telepathic communication with extraterrestrial civilizations and subtle-material worlds, claimed to be receiving thought-forms from the spirit of Michael Newton – a psychotherapist who passed away on September 22, 2016. Transmitting these messages, as she stated, she detailed Newton's post-mortem existence, his incarnations in the Mayan civilization and on other planets, as well as clarifications to his books regarding the multiple incarnations of a single soul.
Newton himself was a controversial but undeniably significant figure on the earthly plane. Starting his career as a classic psychotherapist and skeptic, through trial and accidental discovery, he developed a unique technique – regression to the "life between lives" (LBL) – which allowed patients in deep hypnotic trance to describe not just past incarnations, but also their inter-incarnation existence in the Spirit World. His three books have been translated into dozens of languages and have changed the worldview of millions of readers.
This analysis is neither an apology for mediumship nor a blanket refutation of it. The task is to place what happened in 2022 alongside what science knows and does not know in 2026 about consciousness, hypnosis, post-mortem experience, and reincarnation, and to honestly answer one of humanity's main questions: when, if ever, will science be able to prove the immortality of the soul?
II. WHO WAS MICHAEL NEWTON: FROM SKEPTIC TO CARTOGRAPHER OF THE SPIRIT WORLD
2.1 Biographical Sketch
Michael Newton was born on December 9, 1931, in the USA. He earned a doctorate in counseling psychology, became a certified master hypnotherapist, and was a member of the American Counseling Association. For many years, he combined a private practice in Los Angeles with teaching in higher education institutions. According to the official website of the Newton Institute, his first encounter with the inter-life plane occurred in 1968 – by accident, when he hypnotized a female patient to treat depression, and she spontaneously described the space between her past lives and a meeting with a group of soulmates.
The episode that Newton recounted many times, and which found almost verbatim confirmation in the 2022 mediumistic session, involved another patient – a man suffering from chronic psychosomatic pain in his rib area. Classical therapy yielded no results. Following an intuitive impulse, Newton instructed the patient to "go back to the source of the pain" – and the patient found himself on a World War I battlefield, where he had been killed by a spear in the side. Upon emerging from the trance, the pain was gone. Newton, by his own admission, initially explained this neurophysiologically – as healing through imagery – but the accumulation of similar cases gradually convinced him of the reality of reincarnation.
By the end of his career, Newton had conducted sessions with over 7,000 clients and, from their accounts, constructed a detailed map of the Spirit World: soul groups, levels of development, councils of elders, choice of incarnations, and life plan goals. This map was reflected in three books: Journey of Souls (1994), Destiny of Souls (2000), and Life Between Lives (2004). In 2002, he founded the nonprofit Michael Newton Institute for training regression therapists. Newton passed away on September 22, 2016, at the age of 84.
2.2 What the Spirit Said About Itself: Analysis of the 2022 Session
In the mediumistic session, the spirit, calling himself Michael, stated that he had incarnated "from the 12th level" and departed to the 20th – the "Angel level." He confirmed key biographical details that align with published data: skepticism in his youth, Christian faith, the first patient with rib pain, resistance from colleagues, and a journal's refusal to publish an article on reincarnation. This indicates that the contactee was very familiar with Newton's biography – which, however, in itself can neither confirm nor refute the authenticity of the contact.
Of particular interest is the correction that the "spirit" made to Newton's own books. Specifically, he clarified that the phenomenon of a single soul incarnating simultaneously in multiple bodies, described by some patients, is more likely a "coincidence of vibrations" of different spirits or the experience of perceiving the flow of several incarnations as a single whole. One spirit – one body. This is an interesting internal contradiction: a posthumous authority "corrects" the earthly author, citing the inadequacy of the linguistic tools available to patients under hypnosis. This interpretation, it should be noted, aligns with the criticism that several LBL researchers have long voiced regarding the schematic nature of Newton's model.
"People, being under hypnosis, clothed their spiritual experience in the words that are in their brain, in their memory, in their lexicon. And when they tried to convey to me the feeling of spiritual unity with one or another Spirit incarnated in another body, their brain could not find another phrase besides 'we are a single being incarnated in different bodies'" – from the session, December 25, 2022.
This admission – conscious or unconscious – points to a fundamental problem of all regressive hypnotherapy: the boundary between spiritual experience and the linguistic construction of the brain is, in principle, insurmountable within the framework of a purely narrative methodology.
III. REGRESSIVE HYPNOTHERAPY: WHAT SCIENCE SAYS
3.1 The Phenomenon of Hypnosis and the Problem of "False Memories"
Regressive hypnotherapy – the practice of using hypnotic trance to access supposed memories from past lives – occupies an extremely uncomfortable position in the scientific landscape. According to the consensus of the medical and psychological community, documented, for instance, in publications like the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, a person under hypnosis is in a state of heightened suggestibility where the boundary between real memory and confabulation – i.e., the unintentional construction of "memories" – is systematically blurred.
The pioneering "Bridey Murphy case" of 1952, where a Colorado housewife under hypnosis described the life of a 19th-century Irishwoman with astonishing detail, was long considered proof of reincarnation. However, subsequent investigation revealed that the family's childhood neighbor was a real Irishwoman named Bridey Murphy Corvell, whose stories had lodged in the subject's subconscious as "cryptomnesia" – a hidden memory perceived under hypnosis as one's own past experience.
Cryptomnesia is a mechanism whereby forgotten information absorbed from books, films, or conversations resurfaces in an altered state of consciousness as a "genuine memory." Experiments by Spanos (1994) and other researchers showed that a patient's belief in reincarnation and the therapist's subtle suggestions are the two most significant predictors of the content of "past-life memories." Historical verification of the three most documented cases (Bridey Murphy, Jane Evans, an unnamed English woman) revealed factual inaccuracies traceable to common stereotypes about the eras described.
The American Medical Association officially stated in 1985 that hypnosis does not enhance the accuracy of memories – it increases the subject's confidence in the truthfulness of what they are describing, which is a fundamentally different phenomenon. This is precisely why testimony obtained under hypnosis has been consistently excluded from evidence in legal proceedings in most Western countries since the late 1980s.
3.2 The Therapeutic Paradox: When "Untruth" Heals
Here, however, the picture becomes more complex. A significant number of clinicians working with regression therapy, including Newton himself in the early period of his practice, note that the psychotherapeutic effect of regressions – the alleviation of phobias, chronic psychosomatic pain, depression – often proves real and lasting, regardless of whether the "memories" are literally true. This paradox is well described in a 2018 article in the journal Neuroethics: the narrative heals, irrespective of its ontological status.
This position was also clearly articulated in the 2022 mediumistic session: in the early stages of his work, Newton told himself, "even if it's not true, even if it's the brain's fantasies – so be it. If this method can help people, I will do it." This is a pragmatically honest position, but it conflicts with LBL's claim to be an empirical study of post-mortem experience.
The key methodological question posed by science is: if the past-life narrative is therapeutic in itself, is this narrative a window into objective reality or merely a tool for psychological restructuring? Regression therapists answer: both. Critics insist: there is no evidence for the former.
3.3 Neuroimaging, Quantum Consciousness, and the Limits of Materialism
Since the 2010s, the debate on the nature of consciousness has moved beyond traditional psychoanalysis and acquired a new dimension in neuroscience and theoretical physics. Three theoretical directions are particularly relevant to our topic.
The first is Giulio Tononi's Integrated Information Theory (IIT), according to which consciousness is a fundamental property of informationally integrated systems and is not reducible to neural activity as such. This theory is theoretically compatible with the existence of consciousness outside a biological substrate – although it provides no direct proof.
The second is the Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) theory, proposed by neuroscientist Stuart Hameroff and physicist Roger Penrose, suggesting that consciousness is generated by quantum processes within neuronal microtubules. If quantum processes are indeed involved in generating subjective experience, a theoretical possibility opens up for non-local manifestations of consciousness.
The third is a model proposed by Swedish physicist Maria Strømme and described in materials from late 2025: consciousness represents a background field of the universe, and the individual "self" is merely a temporary localization of this field. After the death of the biological body, according to this model, consciousness "returns" to the universal field – like a wave merging with the ocean. This concept theoretically explains both Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) and terminal lucidity in dying patients with severe dementia.
All three theories remain debatable. None are universally accepted, and none have yet provided reproducible, verifiable proof of the survival of personal consciousness after bodily death. Nevertheless, they represent serious academic attempts to move beyond rigid neural reductionism.
IV. THE SCIENCE OF POST-MORTEM EXPERIENCE: ACCUMULATED EVIDENCE
4.1 The Research of Ian Stevenson and DOPS
The most methodologically rigorous body of data supporting the reincarnation hypothesis remains the work of psychiatrist Ian Stevenson (1918–2007), who for forty years collected and verified cases of young children spontaneously reporting details of presumed previous lives. During this time, he documented over 3,000 cases.
Stevenson founded the Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) at the University of Virginia – an institution that continues its work to this day. According to DOPS data from early 2025, the database includes over 2,200 active verified cases. About 70% of these are associated with violent or unexpected death in the presumed previous life; about 30% are accompanied by birthmarks or birth defects topographically corresponding to the described injuries. The current director of DOPS, Dr. Jim Tucker, is conducting a large-scale study on the prevalence of such memories among American children and plans to use neuroimaging to search for neural correlates of these phenomena.
Critics rightly point out the methodological vulnerabilities of Stevenson's approach: data was collected predominantly in cultures with a firmly entrenched belief in reincarnation, creating a risk of systematic bias; confirmation of details often relied on testimony from interested parties; independent replication is difficult. Nevertheless, Stevenson himself characterized the collected data as "sufficient to convince a reasonable, open-minded person that reincarnation is a real possibility" – and it is this cautious formulation that, in the opinion of many, reflects the true state of affairs.
4.2 Clinical Studies of Near-Death Experience
A parallel front of research is the work on Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). In 2001, a prospective study published in The Lancet under the direction of Dutch cardiologist Pim van Lommel showed that 18% of patients resuscitated after clinical death reported conscious experience during the period of absent blood flow and electrical brain activity. This challenges – though does not disprove – the basic neuroscientific assumption that consciousness is solely a product of neural activity.
In 2023, the large-scale AWARE II study, led by resuscitation expert Sam Parnia, recorded verifiable EEG activity patterns in some patients during prolonged resuscitation. A publication in May 2025 in a specialized peer-reviewed journal indicates that cortical activity associated with the experience of expanded consciousness was registered precisely when the brain, by all clinical parameters, should not have been functioning. Neuroscientific explanations for this phenomenon (compensatory discharges of dying neurons, muscle artifacts) compete with transpersonal interpretations; however, neither side can yet claim complete explanatory adequacy.
In 2025, an article titled "Seeking the Soul" was published in the Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, directly raising the question of the neural correlates of what has traditionally been called the soul. The authors state that despite identifying key areas of consciousness in the posterior parietal-occipital cortex, the "hard problem of consciousness" – why and how subjective experience arises from neural activity – remains unsolved. As long as it remains unsolved, the door for non-materialist interpretations formally stays open.
4.3 Verified Cases: Detective Snow and Others
Cases where information obtained during regression was amenable to independent historical verification deserve special attention. The most documented is the case of former Chicago police chief Robert Snow, a skeptic who underwent regression "for fun" and described in detail the life of the little-known 19th-century American artist John Carroll Beckwith. A detective-style investigation allowed Snow to verify more than thirty specific details – including the layout of furniture in the studio, a particular painting, and chronic shoulder pain. This case is described in the book Looking for Carroll Beckwith and continues to be used by regression proponents as a counter-argument to cryptomnesia theory.
Critics, however, point out that verified details usually concern information theoretically accessible to the subject – though proving prior familiarity is significantly more difficult. Cases where regression revealed genuinely unknown historical information remain extremely rare and have not been systematically replicated under controlled conditions.
V. MEDIUMSHIP AS A RESEARCH PHENOMENON
5.1 What is Mediumship from a Scientific Point of View?
Mediumship – the claimed ability to receive information from discarnate entities – has been studied by science since the late 19th century. The Society for Psychical Research (UK), founded in 1882, set itself the task of rigorously testing such phenomena. Over a century and a half of research, a significant body of both positive cases that have not received satisfactory normal explanations, as well as exposed frauds, has been accumulated.
Modern academic research into mediumship is conducted at DOPS at the University of Virginia and several other institutions. Protocols for blind and double-blind experiments with professional mediums have repeatedly yielded results exceeding chance levels – though not with the consistency that would convince a skeptical researcher.
5.2 Analysis of the Session: What Can Be Verified, What Cannot
Regarding the 2022 session, a clear distinction must be made between what is verifiable and what is, in principle, unverifiable.
Verifiable details include biographical facts about Newton that coincide with published sources: the first patient with rib pain, skepticism about reincarnation, Protestant Christian faith, resistance from the academic community, refusal to publish an article. All of this could have been known to the contactee from Newton's books and Institute materials.
What is, with current tools, fundamentally unverifiable includes: levels of spiritual development (12th, 20th), incarnations in the Mayan civilization in the 5th century AD, incarnations on the planets Burkhad, Esler, and Shimor, sensations during the transition to the Spirit World, meeting with three entities in white robes. None of these claims are amenable to verification by existing scientific methods – which, of course, does not automatically imply their falsehood.
Of particular interest is the predictive fragment of the session, where the "spirit of Newton" scanned the "timeline" of the situation surrounding the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine and pointed to a peaceful resolution option by "the end of March – beginning of April 2023." This prediction, as is known, did not come true – which in itself constitutes partial negative evidence: either the predictive ability of this contactee is not reliable, or the "timeline" functions differently than assumed, or only one of the potential branches of events materialized, or the contact with Newton's spirit did not occur.
VI. WHEN WILL SCIENCE PROVE THE IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL?
6.1 The Problem of Definitions: What Exactly Needs to Be Proven?
Before answering the question "when," it is necessary to clarify "what." The word "soul" encompasses several conceptually distinct phenomena.
The first is the survival of consciousness: does subjective experience continue after the cessation of biological brain functions? The second is the preservation of personal identity: does not just "consciousness in general" survive, but precisely this specific "I" with my memories, attachments, and goals? The third is reincarnation: does this personal identity transfer to a new body? Each of these questions requires fundamentally different research tools and has different chances of verification.
The survival of consciousness in general is the most accessible of the three tasks for study. It is here that NDE research, cases of terminal lucidity, and work with children spontaneously recalling past lives provide the most interesting data. The preservation of personal identity and reincarnation as such require significantly stricter protocols that have not yet been developed.
6.2 Four Conditions Under Which a Scientific Breakthrough is Possible
An analysis of the current state of research allows us to identify four conditions, upon fulfillment of which science could move closer to verifying the phenomenon of consciousness survival.
Condition one – resolution of the "hard problem of consciousness." As long as neuroscience cannot explain why neural activity generates subjective experience "from within," it lacks the theoretical basis for the exhaustive assertion that consciousness cannot exist without neurons. New theories of consciousness, including IIT and Orch-OR, are moving in this direction; however, a breakthrough here is a matter of decades, not years.
Condition two – verification of "pre-death visions" with pre-hidden markers. The AWARE experiment introduced the practice of placing hidden images at a height inaccessible to the view of a recumbent patient to test claims of out-of-body experiences. So far, not a single convincing case with confirmed details has been recorded – this is an honest negative result, which, however, does not mean the question is closed.
Condition three – neuroimaging studies of children with past-life memories. The DOPS group plans to use neuroimaging to identify neural differences between children with such memories and a control group. If specific patterns prove reproducible, it would place the question of the mechanism on a strictly scientific footing.
Condition four – development of strict protocols for mediumistic research with unknown information. Testing mediums should be based on data that is fundamentally inaccessible through books, the internet, or any normal channels – for example, details from classified archives or facts about people who died without public obituaries, personally communicated to the tester.
6.3 A Realistic Forecast
The frank answer to the question "when?" is this: in the current sense of the word "prove" – i.e., to obtain reproducible, experimentally controlled, theoretically explained, and conventionally accepted data on the preservation of personal consciousness after biological death – science is not ready for this step either in 2026, nor, in all likelihood, in the foreseeable future of the next ten to twenty years.
This, however, does not mean that there is no data. More has been accumulated than is typically acknowledged in mainstream science. The problem lies elsewhere: no collection of this data has reached the threshold at which a rationally thinking scientist would be forced to accept the survival hypothesis as a more parsimonious explanation than complex but "safe" neuroscientific alternatives.
A possible scenario for more modest but real scientific progress is the recognition of consciousness survival as a "seriously researched hypothesis," funding for large-scale prospective studies (an analogue of AWARE, but with greater scope and rigor), inclusion of cases like Stevenson's in standard psychiatry textbooks as "unexplained anomalies requiring explanation" – and a gradual shift in scientific consensus from "this is nonsense" to "we honestly don't know."
Judging by the pace of publications in authoritative journals (The Lancet, Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, Psychology of Consciousness), this shift is already occurring – slowly, without loud declarations, but steadily.
VII. ANTHROPOLOGY OF THE ESOTERIC SESSION: CULTURAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONTEXT
7.1 Why People Seek Contact with the Dead
The phenomenon of mediumship cannot be understood in isolation from the psychology of grief, the existential fear of death, and the need for meaning. Evolutionary psychologist Jesse Bering has shown that the human brain is equipped with an "intuition of immortality" – an inherent tendency to perceive one's own existence as something continuing beyond death, and to have difficulty modeling one's own non-existence. Mediumistic practices, regardless of their ontological status, fulfill an important psychological function: they reduce existential anxiety, provide an experience of ongoing contact with deceased loved ones, and integrate death into a narrative of meaning and development.
The "Cassiopeia" Project and the session of December 2022 fit into a broader global trend: growing interest in spiritual practices, esotericism, and alternative ways of understanding death against the backdrop of a crisis of traditional institutional religions. According to a 2001 Gallup poll, 45% of Americans already either believed in reincarnation or were open to the possibility.
7.2 The Epistemological Position of the Contactee
Contactee Irina Podzorova, in her practice, uses what could be described as "channeled narrative therapy" – a technique where the therapeutic and cognitive dialogue is conducted not directly, but through a "spirit" intermediary. This allows viewers and participants to attribute higher authority to the information than it would receive in a normal format. Psychologically, this is a highly effective mechanism.
A critical position does not require accusations of dishonesty. Contactees can be subjectively absolutely honest – and yet produce content that is a product of their own unconscious, enriched by extensive knowledge of Newton's biography, his methods, and the spiritual concepts characteristic of this cultural environment. This mechanism, called the "ideomotor effect" in the case of planchettes and automatic writing, can take on significantly more complex forms.
VIII. CONCLUSION: BETWEEN PROOF AND MYSTERY
The December 2022 mediumistic session dedicated to the spirit of Michael Newton is a culturally significant document of the era – evidence of how millions of people seek answers to questions that science is not yet able to resolve. It is neither scientific proof of post-mortem existence nor, strictly speaking, its refutation.
Michael Newton left a real mark on the earthly plane: seven thousand documented sessions, three books translated into dozens of languages, an institute for training therapists that exists to this day, and thousands of people who report lasting positive changes after LBL regressions. The question of whether these changes result from actual contact with the Spirit World or are solely a product of effective psychological intervention remains open – and it is this that makes Newton's legacy so intellectually interesting.
In 2026, science faces the "hard problem of consciousness" just as it did in 1994 when Newton's first book was published. Some things have changed: Stevenson's data are being replicated in new samples, NDE studies are becoming methodologically stricter, theories of non-material consciousness are receiving increasingly serious academic attention. But the threshold of proof has not yet been reached.
The spirit of Michael Newton or not-spirit, but "Michael" from the 2022 session said something with which even the strictest materialist would agree: "Your faith shapes events." In the sense that the questions we dare to ask, and the resources we allocate to investigating them, determine how far knowledge will advance. The funding allocated by the global community to the study of consciousness, survival, and post-mortem experience remains negligible compared to the scale of the question.
The most honest answer to the question posed in the title is this: science will probably never "prove" the immortality of the soul in the same way it proves the law of universal gravitation – i.e., through a reproducible experiment with controlled variables. But it is capable – and, judging by trends, is gradually moving towards this – of gathering a body of data in the face of which denial becomes less rationally justified than acceptance.
This moment may come not from a single great discovery, but from the accumulated mass of small, careful, reproducible results. And then what is discussed today on esoteric channels may find its way onto the pages of neuroscience textbooks. Not because science "believed in a miracle," but because it honestly could not offer a better explanation.

Maxim: Tell me, please, how did you come to start putting people into trance and asking them about what they did in past lives?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I didn't come to this immediately. At first, I worked with classical psychological methods, as I was taught at the institute. In Russian, this educational institution is called an institute. They train psychotherapists there. I had, naturally, heard about the theory of reincarnation before and had even read books about it that were published in America. They already existed during my youth.
Maxim: So you were involved with this at the institute, right?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I read these books back in my student days, but I was a skeptic. I was a skeptic who did not deny everything spiritual: I believed in God, was not an atheist, but a Christian, more of the Protestant direction (shows), I prayed. But regarding reincarnation and post-mortem experience, I was quite skeptical, because the orthodox Christian church says very little about these things, fearing the emergence of any teachings contradicting the Christian paradigm of consciousness.
Moreover, the Christian church views the ideas of reincarnation with denial. And I absorbed faith in God from my family members – very devout people (shows his mother – a tall woman with a high hairstyle). I absorbed this faith from her. So when I started working with people, hearing their stories about remembering themselves somewhere in other lives, in other worlds, even on other planets, I considered it to be fabrications or unconscious fantasies of their minds, coming from memory, because they were in a state of hypnosis.
I would put my patients into hypnosis in order to heal them from various depressions, suicide attempts, addictions, and even from physical illnesses caused by a specific type of autonomic nervous system response, which reacted to stress with a somatic, i.e., bodily, illness. Using psychological methods, I helped such people heal physical illness.
I read a great many books and wrote many articles myself on psychosomatics, that is, the influence of the psyche on the human body and its health. This is indeed a very serious and extensive topic, because literally every one of your mental states, every movement of your psyche, already changes your body in one direction or another.
I continued to conduct my sessions, but one day, that very patient came to me (shows) – the one with whom my serious interest in things you call esoteric began, which I then considered pseudoscientific.
I thought there were some things, somewhat like mythology. No, I didn't laugh at it; I simply thought that the myths of Ancient Greece, or Ancient Rome, or any others, were subjects of faith for ancient people. But we are modern people who have studied many sciences, and therefore we have a different picture of the world, and we no longer believe in myths.
I considered esotericism and reincarnation, past lives, to be akin to myths, although I was a Christian.
Maxim: Thank you.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): But I remembered most of all that first patient, who experienced constant pain in the rib area (shows). And when I put him into a hypnotic state, conducted several sessions – despite all my efforts, his pains remained. Although all physical examinations showed that everything was fine with him, that is, there were no pathologies of the body: he had undergone all examinations, all tests were done, there were no injuries or infections.
And then I decided to find (at the time I thought I decided myself, because I always listened to my intuition) how to proceed in the treatment plan for complex patients.

Irina: I asked my intuition: "What should I do?" And an answer came to me. Only after I left incarnation and fully reunited on a spiritual level with my Higher Self, with my Higher Source of Light, did I fully realize that it was an answer from the Higher Self.
My Higher Self prompted me: "Put this person into hypnosis and give him the suggestion to send his consciousness to the moment in time when this pain first arose. To describe what he sees." Under hypnosis, you can make so-called suggestions, give instructions that a person will carry out absolutely of their own free will, guided by these instructions as if they were their own – that's a feature of the hypnotic state.
I suggested to him to go there and describe what he sees around him (shows Irina how they sat together: the man on the couch, and Michael in the chair).
Maxim: And what happened? Where did he go?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I told him: "Describe everything you see." At first he was silent, but his eyes were moving rapidly under his closed lids, and I realized he was seeing something. His breathing became more frequent, and I realized that because of what he saw, he was entering a state of agitation. And suddenly he began to moan and say that he was on a battlefield, and he was killed by a spear.
I started questioning him: "How did you end up there?" He gave his name as Charlie, and that was not the name this person had then. I asked: "How did you end up on this battlefield?" And he replied that it was World War I. By his year of birth, the patient could not possibly correspond to that date, because he was born much later. And then a thought flashed through my mind: "Could it be that what I read about reincarnation, about rebirth, is true?" (shows Irina his surprise).
I asked where he was hit by the spear, and he pointed with his hands on his body (he could move) to that very spot that was painful for him in this life. And I was very surprised by such a coincidence.
At first, I explained it to myself... Naturally, my mind was defending itself against a new concept, as one of the functions of the mind is to protect existing beliefs. So my mind, in a few seconds, probably ran through dozens of possible options, just to avoid accepting what I was actually seeing.
(Irina) (laughs) He tells it so interestingly!
(Spirit of Michael Newton) I settled on the more scientifically (from a physiological viewpoint) plausible option – that this pain had caused a focus of prolonged excitation in his cerebral cortex, which manifested in consciousness as a "spear strike." And the name and the setting he described (as I explained it to myself then), the patient took from films or books. Naturally, I didn't tell him this.
Maxim: (answers a question from the chat) Yes, next year we will travel to cities for retreats. Maybe you'll catch us somewhere. They ask: "Do you conduct retreats in Moscow?" We also conduct them in Moscow.
Irina: Michael says he explained it to himself as being due to the pain – as if his patient was hit by a spear. But he involuntarily, not intentionally, made it up; his psyche created such an image, and under hypnosis he saw exactly what he had seen in films.
Maxim: Tell me, please, when did you fully believe that patients were saying things that actually happened in past lives? When did that happen?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Nevertheless, I naturally didn't tell him this, just thought it to myself, and started acting in that situation with the usual psychological methods: I asked him to imagine that the spear passed by. And he started imagining that, to calm that focus of excitation which was causing him psychosomatic pain, because physically everything was in order.
Imagine my surprise when, upon coming out of that state, firstly, he remembered practically nothing, although I hadn't given him a suggestion to forget, and secondly, he looked at me in surprise and said that perhaps for the first time in several decades, the pain had subsided without painkillers. He looked at me with great surprise and asked what had happened.
I always made audio recordings (shows a tape recorder) of my sessions, and I understood then that with this method I could help other people who were resistant to psychotherapy. This case interested me greatly, and, still not fully believing it, I decided to read literature on the topic of reincarnation, Eastern religions, etc. I thought, even if it's all untrue, even if it's all fantasies of the brain explaining its own pain to itself, then so be it. If this method can help people, then I will do it, even if I don't tell them about it.
And I gradually began to use this method more and more. It interested me in that, although I didn't believe, only allowed that it might be true, I thought: "Could one learn any details about the life of past eras?" I began to question people I put into hypnosis (I didn't call it regression then, just hypnotic technique, psychotherapy), and I started recording the results, first on tape, and then I would listen to what they said about different eras.
One woman said she was incarnated in a northern country, where people don't live now, somewhere in Greenland. It was a very, very long time ago, when there was no glaciation there yet. Another man told me he was incarnated in Ancient Greece. I questioned him about details he theoretically couldn't know from ordinary books: what did you eat there, what were you wearing? And others. And then I tried to verify it all through historical literature – what they told me.
Maxim: And?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): And I began to be convinced that very many facts coincided with each other. I thought that reincarnation does exist after all, because it is precisely it that most harmoniously and logically explains the facts I saw before me.
I arrived at this conclusion through a purely scientific method, conducting many experiments, and decided to share this discovery with other colleagues (shows a hall, him giving a lecture). I gathered a few of the most striking cases and said that I had discovered such a phenomenon. I called it the "reincarnation effect," and it coincides with historical data. The reaction I saw on my colleagues' faces at first, and then from their conversation, surprised me somewhat. One could say that they reacted not even with scientific skepticism (which would be quite understandable), but some even with condemnation, like: why am I doing this, what for?
Maxim: That's approximately what happened to me when I first gathered my friends: "What I'm going to show you now!" And Irina started speaking. Half of my friends didn't just react with skepticism, they started twirling their fingers at their temples and saying: "Max, what have you gotten yourself into!"
So, half of your friends didn't appreciate your zeal?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): They didn't want to publish my article in a journal. There was a quite scientific journal on psychotherapy, where I used to write articles and was already gathering material for a book. But when I wrote specifically about reincarnation, a man who was the head of that publishing house (head of the scientific department) called me and said: "Sorry, but we cannot release this."
I said: "Why? This is quite scientific material. I'm not asserting that it exists 100%, it's just one of the hypotheses."
He says: "We cannot allow such a hypothesis. It's closer to some religions, and shouldn't be in science."
I objected: "I discovered such a phenomenon." And he started telling me that it could be explained as one of the strange and amusing effects of the brain, arising in its neural network. But hypotheses that go beyond the scientific paradigm are preferably not put forward. That was the conversation, but it was all said quite kindly and gently.
But then I began my own research. It interested me. And the more I researched this topic, the more I believed it, that is, my Spiritual heart responded to these stories. I saw the sincerity of people, how their destinies changed. I saw how their health changed, and I already believed that the Soul is immortal. I had believed this before, as a Christian, but I began to entertain the thought that reincarnation specifically exists.
I even talked about this with the pastor of my church, which I attended. He knew what I did – that I was a hypnotherapist, a psychotherapist. I told him everything too. It was my friend – Isaac (shows a fairly elderly man with a small beard). He listened to me and said: "I know you won't make anything up, that you are a very conscientious scientist. But still, be careful, because in the Spirit World there are evil forces that can lead you astray regarding reincarnation."
Maxim: And what forces are there in the Spirit World that can lead one astray regarding reincarnation?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): He meant evil Spirits.
Maxim: Evil Spirits... Michael, you see, here's the thing. I apologize, Michael.

There were no prerequisites for anything to happen to this civilization. Later, being in the Spirit World, I reviewed the history of this people and saw that gradually those people who lived in these cities on the ocean shore began to move inland, to places where there were no people. And the further they scattered, the more their languages and culture began to differ. And they started to quarrel, to engage in military conflicts with each other.
And much later, onto the lands of the descendants of the Maya... And not only the Maya. What you now call Maya is only one of the tribes of that country I'm talking about. There were actually many tribes there. A tribe is roughly like your nationality, and each of them called themselves by their own name. Then they began to quarrel with each other and scatter further and further, so that each would have their own hunting grounds, land for cultivation. Because they no longer did as before, dividing everything peacefully, taking turns – sharing with each other, as happens in a tribal system. And in the end, it turned out that this country dispersed into many tribes.
And only later, on large ships from the East (shows), where the Sun rises, those people you already know sailed. They became the ancestors of the founders of the states that are now on the continents of North America and South America. That happened later. They simply captured several dozen tribes, which they collectively called Indians, without bothering to distinguish who was Maya, who was not Maya, and who were their descendants.
Maxim: I see, one civilization came and absorbed another civilization.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): The civilization that came from the eastern country managed to conquer these Indians, the aggregate of these tribes, because they were fragmented. If the invaders had come at the time when we had a united country, they wouldn't have succeeded so easily, as we would have offered greater resistance.

Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I want to tell you that, after all, the Spirit incarnates in one physical body. What I described based on those people's stories... I didn't write the books myself; I described the stories of many people, the most interesting ones, as I thought, which I selected for my books. Some of them told me that they were simultaneously incarnated in different bodies, and sometimes even on different planets, not just on Earth.
But still, I want to tell you, it was a somewhat different effect; it was the effect of a coincidence in vibrations of different Spirits. The Spirit incarnates only in one specific body. Because its task is to change its spiritual level by fulfilling the tasks of incarnation in one body. One body is enough to raise one's level.
Moreover, the body of a human or another intelligent being is not just clothing, but a fairly complex energy structure, manifested at the physical density level, at the etheric density level. And also, through the physical and etheric density levels, various spiritual qualities are manifested, which in modern esotericism are called the aura. These manifested spiritual qualities become separate fields.
That is, a person is a fairly complex structure. And therefore, in order to direct the energies of the Spirit World into the physical body, into the etheric body, into the astral body, and so on through the spiritual channel, and in order to sustain life in that body, a certain percentage of the spiritual essence must remain in the Spirit World.
Maxim: So, the statement we can find in the books written by you – that there can be one incarnation of a Soul in different bodies – is incorrect? And you are now asserting that there is only one Spirit and one incarnation?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Yes, at that time I wrote based on my observations, based on the stories of those people who described this to me. Now, being already in the Spirit World, I will tell you why such an effect occurred.
Maxim: Yes, I would be very interested to know why such an effect occurred.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Because people, being under hypnosis, that is, in an altered state of consciousness, clothed their spiritual experience in the words that are in their brain, in their memory, in their lexicon. And when they tried to convey to me the feeling of spiritual unity with one or another Spirit incarnated in another body (unity in vibrations, coincidence in vibrations), their brain could not find another phrase besides "we are a single being incarnated in different bodies." That's the first effect.

At first it seemed fantastic to me, because I thought incarnations only happened on Earth, although I always wondered about the possibility of extraterrestrial life. I believed in it. That is, I believed in God and thought that God, since he created Earth, which revolves around the Sun, then around other stars too, perhaps, planets revolve on which intelligent beings live. Because the light of these stars should not be wasted, but should give life to someone. That's how I felt. So, somewhere out there, there is life – that was my understanding. And some people told me they remembered incarnations on other planets.
The point is, my task was to record people's memories. Later I called this method "regressive therapy." It's the healing of the Soul, the healing of people's psyche by means of returning back, into past memories. And the more I engaged in this research, the more my scientific colleagues called me a person who had gone into esotericism, into pseudoscience, and some even began to call me a charlatan who wanted to make money from gullible people.
Maxim: That's what they call us too.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I'll explain why they say that. They are not at all to blame for this; it's simply that level of consciousness. They came into this incarnation to live through the lessons of the material world.

Maxim: Tell me, please, I want to ask something personal. When you discarnated, who met you, what did you feel, how did you perceive your body? Tell me, where did you find yourself, who came for you, or did you go somewhere yourself?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I knew a few days before, I felt I was leaving this world, but I was absolutely not afraid, because I already knew that my spiritual family, my spiritual brothers, with whom I had perhaps spent more than one incarnation, would be meeting me.
I had heard this hundreds of times, and now I wanted to see it for myself. And I knew I already had an old, infirm body, so I wasn't afraid. I closed my eyes and didn't even feel any suffocation or pain, but felt lightness and expansion, as if I were becoming a cloud. And it seemed to me that I filled the entire room and turned into light vapor. Imagine a room filled with vapor, and it seemed to me that I was that vapor.
If I hadn't had this knowledge I had acquired, I might have thought I was hallucinating or going crazy, and would have been afraid. Because people usually get frightened by incomprehensible sensations in their body or in their head. They start thinking they're going crazy, that they're hallucinating, and therefore they need help, otherwise they might harm themselves. People have such thoughts.
I, however, was no longer afraid, but felt expansion, lightness, then I completely stopped feeling my body. I tried to open my eyes, but didn't feel them at all, so I just started looking ahead, as I then thought, with my eyes closed.
At first it was dark, grey mist, then it began to clear, and there was more and more white Light. But I didn't feel any arms or legs. At first I was just a rarefied space, I was the Light itself, I felt like eternal Light. And I understood, the thought came to me, that I was dying, leaving this life, but not a single note of fear arose in me. I thought: "Well, well, let's continue observing what happens next."
Maxim: As you were dying, you began to observe yourself?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Yes. Just as I observed my patients who talked about the transition to the Spirit World. I even thought: "Well, well, let's see what happens next, how similar it will be to what I've already heard."
Maxim: So! And how similar was it?
Irina: He smiles and says it was similar to some accounts. But people described it differently: some were met by Angels, some by their relatives, some rose alone, and only when they had flown high did they meet the first living being.
(Spirit of Michael Newton): And when I saw the Light around me, I felt like a huge sphere. I started looking around to see my body or the surrounding world in this Light, but I saw nothing. I felt the presence of someone nearby, began to look at that point in space, and saw three tall young men, completely in white robes, emerging from the white Light towards me. Maxim: But I have other questions for you. Your books contain information that Spirits are united in groups, and within a group, Spirits may differ in spiritual level, yet they reside in one spiritual space. This somewhat contradicts the data transmitted through Irina. How can you explain this?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): What is transmitted through Irina? I'm just not entirely aware.
Maxim: Within one group, Spirits can only be of one level. Higher Spirits can descend to lower Spirits, but lower ones cannot ascend to higher Spirits.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): What I called spiritual level is not what the Interstellar Union calls spiritual level. I had formed an understanding only of lower, middle, and higher levels.
Maxim: So you didn't have a breakdown into sub-levels?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Yes, I had no information about sub-levels. Speaking about a single spiritual space, I meant the space of the spiritual family, which includes Spirits from different levels.
And indeed, as I have now learned, between the world of non-incarnated Spirits and the material world, there exists that area of the Spirit World which in esotericism is called the Astral world. The Astral world is an intermediate world between incarnated and non-incarnated Spirits. And it is into the Astral world, which has many different layers and sub-levels around each planet, that both incarnated Spirits and non-incarnated Spirits can come – it is a place of common contacts.
And when non-incarnated Spirits from any level come there, they can form a single spiritual space where they can all communicate, if they wish, of course.

Maxim: Tell me, please, why is information about their origin, about the Spirit World, hidden from the inhabitants of Earth? We live like blind kittens: we search bit by bit for the truth, but when we find it, those around us hardly believe it and consider us crazy. We are deprived of elementary basic knowledge. Why do you think this happens on planet Earth? Why aren't we given the knowledge that our interstellar friends transmit through Irina, and which you transmitted in the form of conscious perception that you possessed? Why is the Church silent?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I can give my opinion and my view of reality as an Angel-healer. I believe that Earth, in the form of development and in the state it is currently in, is a planet for those Spirits who decided to try incarnating here and independently arrive at the truths we are talking about now. That is, without hints, without childhood teaching. So that you can walk the path to the Spirit World through the lessons of material consumption, material creation, material creativity. Gradually unfolding in your material body, and further – in all your material life, that bud of the Flower of Spirit, which is known to us all as Absolute Love. For only Absolute Love gives birth to peace in the Soul.
Earth is such a specific planet, which, depending on the spiritual level, is a kind of test. For higher Spirits, it is a test of their faith, their Love in conditions where there is no longer tenderness, softness, and Love from everyone around. Yes, many do not pass it, but their experience is all the more valuable afterwards. And for Spirits from lower and middle levels who incarnate here, it is an opportunity to go through the lessons of life in matter, gradually learning to love themselves, their family, to build their reality so as to be happy in it, and then later consciously arrive at the level of spiritual comprehension of reality.

Maxim: And what would you add?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I would add to it the words and the method that, in order to help people, it is very important not only to perform regressions into past lives, but also to communicate with one's own Spirit, to open various facets of one's creative, spiritual, contactee abilities. It is important to open various facets of one's mind and heart, to cleanse one's Soul of everything that prevents one from being a happy, loved, and loving person, from being harmonious. Very many are asking you now: "How do you view the situation that has developed between Russia and Ukraine? I mean the military conflict. How do you, from the point of view of the Spirit World, see the resolution of this conflict? And what options do you see in the future regarding this situation?"
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Ukraine and Russia? You know, I am at the 20th level of the World of non-incarnated Spirits. Only the Spirit World is visible there, but of course, I have heard from other Angels who come and tell.
I have heard information that very destructive and tragic events are happening for the destinies of many people. I want to say, I consider this a huge spiritual lesson for all entities who, regardless of their spiritual level, are incarnated in this time and space.
What is a spiritual lesson? Often people understand it as punishment, as karma, as an inevitable whiplash from the Higher world that is supposed to force them to go in the right direction. In reality, it is a view through the heart, permeated with instincts. That is, this view is relevant to the physical body you are in now. From the point of view of a non-incarnated Spirit, reality looks different, including the spiritual lesson looks different.
A spiritual lesson is not punishment, in the sense you are accustomed to understanding it. It is not revenge for a wrong action. A spiritual lesson is a specific task for your Soul, which you set for yourself, as that result, that ideal you need to reach. Before your incarnation, you set yourself the task that after leaving the incarnation you should be at such and such a level. To achieve this, you need to learn certain methods of acting in the material body.
And if you find yourself during organized military actions in any country, if you are incarnated there, then the first thing you must know is that your Soul was acquainted with the probability of these events occurring before your incarnation, and you yourself gave such consent. In many cases, you consciously chose this incarnation yourself.
Because during military actions, when one person is your friend, and another is your enemy, and all this is tied to the instinct of self-preservation and to the fact that certain government circles teach you who to love and who to hate, and why to do it, all this is a very complex, but very effective and potentially bright spiritual lesson. In it, you can either lower your vibrations and go to a lower spiritual level, or pass through it with Love and learn to be yourself, to be the Light of Love for everyone, even in the circumstances you find yourself in.
But to achieve this in reality, you must, firstly, believe in God, in His existence, in His justice, in the righteousness of this world you are in. You must love God, and based on that Love for Him, love yourself and all the people around you. Because when you truly love God, you will love any manifestation of God and accept it, send it Love, forgive, and thereby raise your vibrations.
I want to tell you that it is far from always the case that Souls incarnated in times of military actions have themselves killed someone, or had bad karma, or something else. That happens, but not always. In reality, you can lower your vibrations and accumulate a lot of aggression or a lot of despondency in your Soul, which, by the way, is called "auto-aggression," i.e., aggression directed at oneself, without killing anyone. You can simply quietly hate your neighbor, your wife, your children, or yourself, and engage in that for quite a long time. And in terms of your vibrations, you will indeed be no different from the most brutal warrior.
There is a certain lesson of Unconditional Love here for the rulers of these peoples you named Russia and Ukraine, and for all those countries that are helping them remain in the state they are currently in.

Irina: You asked me about the future, so I told you about the karmic lesson. While I was speaking, I sent my phantom. An Angel can instantly send their phantom to that place in the Astral world where the Timeline is located. And right now my phantom is practically in the Timeline, reviewing this situation. Reviewing the egregores, the energetic state of the masses, and looking at what variants of the future exist.
You know, at the present moment I see the following: in the egregores of Ukraine and Russia, in the masses, in the Souls of people reflected in the Astral world as egregores, a great deal of indignation, grievances, and anger towards each other has accumulated. But all this is quite fixable, provided that the rest of the world's countries do not hinder these two countries from undergoing their lesson.
I am currently viewing a variant of the future where the rest of the world's countries come to their senses, recover, and urge Ukraine and Russia, sending Love. They will call for peace, mutual Love, forgiveness of each other, and not only the rulers, but the people as well.
At present, I see support for some specific side in this conflict. It is precisely this support with certain material means and means for killing people that only leads to the deepening and expansion of the conflict and its greater spread, like fire, a conflagration. That is, instead of putting out this fire, there are forces that add fuel to the fire (shows), but this is figurative.
But I see such a variant.
(Irina) Shows me, I am practically together with him viewing the Timeline. Here I stand at a crossroads, with the past behind me and the future before me. But you know, very many branches go off in different directions, and you don't know which one to take. Actually, it's very difficult to choose this branch, because, by the way, in terms of thickness they are quite similar, equally probable, but we will look ahead.
(Spirit of Michael Newton) Here is a variant of a peaceful resolution of this situation, and even greater friendship between the peoples of Russia and Ukraine than there was before these events. I see such a variant approximately at the end of March – beginning of April 2023, but on the condition that the leading countries of the world in economic and political development will call upon – not order, but call with Love upon these countries to stop destroying their own and others' lives and come to an agreement like brothers.
Maxim: And the bad variant, the worst-case scenario for the development of events, what do you see? The most terrible one that could happen?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): For whom?
Maxim: For both countries. What variant do you see on the Timeline that would be terrible for these two and for all other countries? Does such a variant exist at all? Let it be an improbable branch of events on the Timeline, but could it exist?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): The worst variant for both countries... There are several such variants that could end badly for the people of Ukraine, for the people of Russia, for both of them, and for the world as a whole.
Such variants exist, but if you look at the Timeline, at the present moment they are more distant in time than the one I just mentioned. For example, if we look further, towards 2025, we still see the continuation, expansion, deepening of this conflict, the involvement of more and more new countries, and in the end – the revolutionary overthrow of the ruling classes in both Ukraine and Russia, and devastation, chaos (shows).
Maxim: Total chaos?
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): Yes. There will be certain groupings that will gather around strong personalities. They will take everything for themselves, go around looting. In general, nothing is clear there.
Maxim: Michael, let's focus on the first option then, where there is peace, Love, and we become normal countries and help each other.
Irina (Spirit of Michael Newton): I think so too, especially on the eve of the New Year. I don't know this because I have some kind of calendar – after all, in the Spirit World there is no time, we have no day, night, any months there. I just know by the energy that your New Year is approaching.
The New Year is approaching, and so let's not even assume the worst options, because those viewers who hear them might believe in them and, through their faith, bring them closer, making their materialization more probable, because people's faith shapes events.
I call upon all people in Russia, in Ukraine, in the United States of America – in my Homeland, where I lived and which I love, in Germany, in France, in Japan, in China, and in all other countries (I won't list them all now): let's remember who you are! Who is the person who sits next to you? How are they different from you? They want to be happy just like you, they want to live just like you.
Now simply transport yourself and imagine a person from another people. Let a Russian imagine a Ukrainian – just like themselves: the same age. Let a Ukrainian imagine a Russian. But why do you hate each other? Because the other doesn't hold the same beliefs as you? But even if you kill them, they won't start holding them; you won't force them – neither the first nor the second. You won't force them.
